You guys all laugh at ownership's commitment to winning but wasn't the Duchene acquisition an attempt at winning? After getting Duchene they had something like 5 wins and 27 losses. That's not on Dorion.. that's on the players on the ice.

They had a great 2017 run and tried to capitalize on it with Duchene. It didn't work so they tore it down and will try to rebuild.
No, letting your number 2D walk without a replacement and trading your current #1 for an upgrade at #1 isn't an attempt at winning, or at least isn't a smart attempt at winning.

Ya that's not happening.
Watch??It makes perfect sense, you already had the rat that nobody likes or trusts in place to do the dirty work...Which has been done...Now the new owners can come in and not have to shell our 100,s of millions on player salaries..When they have just paid for the team and have to invest 100,s more in Lebreton

No commitment from ownership to win, a complete lack of trust and no guarantees that guys like Chabot and Brady will walk when they get the opportunity. A real Sens groundhog day!

Looks like Grandpa Anderson will be taking on a chaperone role with the new mix!

Question:

"Why is it so hard for this organization to keep players?"

"It's the players right to stay or not stay. We made it clear that we're in a rebuild. All four players were offered contract extensions. It's their choice, that's the CBA. Our job is to instill a culture where people want to stay here, grow here, and win here. You'll have to ask them. We felt we went to the wall to sign these players."

Question:

"Mark Stone talked about ownership's commitment to winning in Vegas. Do players not believe that management is committed?"

"I don't think it has to do with ownership. It's hockey operations that makes the decisions. I didn't talk to Melnyk until after the deal was done. We hope to attract players as we move through this rebuild."

Question:

"How long until this team gets back to respectability?"

"We're seeing growing pains this year. These players are being given a big chance to be a part of success. As early as next year, we'll see growth - we'll be vastly improved with the players we've acquired. (WTF?) An opportunity for young players to get more ice time, other players to step up and produce more. We're confident about the direction we are heading in."

If it’s their job to instill a culture where people want to stay, then they have failed miserably and should be fired!!!!

I think Stone would have stayed if new ownership was coming in.

Is there anything remaining of this man's soul?

You're failing, Dorion.

What is it with you and failure?

Question:

"How do instill that culture? When you have your top 3 goal scorers leaving."

"When you're around the team, we have a lot of character players here. They'll be relied upon more. That doesn't mean our highest scorers are our highest character players. Even though those three guys were high character players, other guys can have their words resonate more in the room."

WTF? Another Boro comment.

Dorion thanks Melnyk for supporting the rebuild.

Also on Stone:

"I'm sorry we couldn't convince him to stay."

1. "We are leaning on the Pageaus, the Boros, Cecis, the Smiths to show the way."

2. "We are investing in our young players (names everyone). Giving them all a big chance to succeed."

3. "Leverage our pipeline of prospects - picks - improve our draft position in years to come."

4. Understand how frustrated some of our fans feel. In time, we trust they will remember that one-time ago, Phillips, Redden, Alfie, Fisher were also just prospects.

the Boros, Cecis, the Smiths to show the way."

He's getting an extension this summer, I can feel it.

(Parphrased, Dorion's press conference)

Someone just asked Dorion why it's so hard for us to keep our players.

Dorion says it's the players right to choose to stay or not stay. He says they tried to re-sign all four, but it was their choice not to stay, and we have to respect the CBA....He says his job is to instill a culture where people want to stay, grow, and win in Ottawa. He says at the time you'd have to ask them because he felt they went through a wall to try and sign these players.

question about Stone liking Vegas' ownership commitment to winning, asked if players don't want to stay in Ottawa due to a lack of ownership commitment

Dorion says all the players knew it was a rebuild, all the players were offered a contract, he does not think it has anything to do with ownership, HOCKEY OPERATIONS MAKES ALL THE DECISIONS HERE, he says an example is he did not talk to Eugene until the trade was done. He is trying to build a culture and team here keep some of the players as they move through the rebuild.

Garrioch asks how quickly this team can return to respectability now that they have all these assets

Dorion says as early as next year we'll see a great improvement with the growth of all these players and the players they've acquired.

Garrioch then asks if they'll have to bolster their veterans in the summer (references teams desire to keep the veterans that left)

Dorion says the fact that these players aren't here anymore creates a chance for young players to get more ice time and produce, gives a chance for the other veterans to step up and produce more, we feel very confident of the direction we are heading.

I know you said leaning on veteran cultures, you mentioned the culture you want to develop, given your top 3 scorers have moved out, how do you go about building the culture moving forward?

Dorion says if you are around the dressing room or the team, you'd know we have a bunch of character players here. Goes on to say that a player doesn't have to be a high scorer to be a high character guy, and other guys voices can resonate in the room.
