What kind of player is he? New Jersey is a very young team and he has some decent size; may be a good fit for him for a time-played increase

He was drafted as a a shooting wing. Led the CHL in goals, I believe. Unfortunately, he hasn't had much luck for any extended period of time. He's been given chances throughout the lineup, but hasn't quite clicked. Not a liability, backchecks and forechecks decently, not the fastest but a good skater, just hasn't turned into a goal scorer in the NHL. The Panthers don't need to trade him, but to address a bigger need, he's probably the odd man out.

I haven't seen him play much in FLA but when he was ins Mississauga he was a great scorer. But, had tunnel vision. Looked selfish. They were a bad team though. He has a hell of a shot

What's the bigger need for Florida? LD?

Does he use his body well, both for separation and hits? And can he grind along the boards and dig for pucks well?

Thanks for all the info

We need a defensive focused LD. Worst comes to worst, we can flip Montour to his off hand. Possibly an expiring backup goalie

We have 15-16 NHL forwards so don't need help help there.

Jusso Valimaki 6"2" 212 lb LD, 23 yr. old, (16th overall 2017) plus 2022 2nd (Florida) for Owen Tippet 6'1" 207 lb RW, 22 yr old, 10th overall 2017) plus 2022 4th.

Justification:

On a stacked team Tippett will be hard pressed to stick in Florida. Florida is under the cap right now due to LTIR relief, but runs the risk of losing a player when everyone is healthy.

Valimaki has also run into some young competition (Connor Mackie) and while his development was stalled for a year due to injury will be challenging for a spot next season, if he isn't called up this year. He has one more year on his contract 1.5M cap hit

Picks are swapped to balance out the difference in the 2017 draft position.

Match made in heaven.

I wouldn't say he's great at either. Not afraid of physical play, but, like much of his game, could use more time to develop.

If OEL didn't have a ridiculous contract he would fit the bill perfectly.

Didn’t lead the CHL in goals in any season. Looks like his best year of goal production placed him 15th in goals among CHLers that season.

Rathbone?
A bit redundant with Hughes, and Canucks are unlikely to end up moving him for a RHD which they need.
Just not sure if it moves the needle for the Canucks in the way they would want if they are moving on from Rathbone.

They may if they move on from Boeser in a trade

Kinda remember he was called ”the best goal scorer” during draft day.

Some called Cole Caufield that recently as well.

No way Seattle entertains that. The ask for Giordano with retention will be a 1st + lesser prospect or a 2nd + good prospect. For Tippett Seattle would offer Fluery or Lauzon.
Damn you do business just like Francis. Also known as you don’t do business because you have no idea what you’re doing. Enjoy keeping Giordano for nothing then lol.

Giordano will be the top rental defenseman at the deadline. Why wouldn't he go for a 1st round pick? Tippett value isn't that of a 1st of a 2nd+.

He'd either be part of a package to get a bigger name or if he's going out one for one, you'd likely be getting a middle 6 forward or a 2nd pair Dman who is due to be a UFA. Maybe a tweener middle 6 Forward with term.

He's not trending like a core 4/5 player. Secondary player for a rebuilding or up and coming team.

We don't know.
He was drafted as a big-bodied, pure sniper, volume shooter, but his finishing ability has been abysmal.
He finishes checks, can win 50/50 battles, and can carry the puck up ice with speed, but that's about it.
His shooting is garbage. He doesn't even play the PP anymore because he kept ripping it wide and around the boards. At least once per game he puts it right in the goalie's chest. Seems to have decent vision, but his passes get blocked too often. He doesn't backcheck or really play in his own zone at all, but, as I said before, he wins 50/50 battles and gets takeaways in the neutral zone.

And lack of playing time/opportunities isn't the problem. He started off the year on the Huberdeau - Bennett line and as the first option on PP2. He wasn't horrible, but he did nothing with the opportunities.
