You can live in your state of denial as long as you want. It doesn't change the fact that Ovechkin's been an offender of bad, questionable, predatory hits on many occasions over the last decade

Ovechkin is a freak of nature. He is bigger and stronger than anyone who has his speed, and way faster than anyone who has his strength and size. And more durable than almost anyone.

He has injured players, and mostly for things weaker and slower players do all the time. He was a dangerous player in his younger years. The league suspended him without much in the way of any egregious offenses.

Ovechkin has really cleaned up his game. You say "over the last decade" - that's just not accurate. Ovechkin cleaned up his game in 2011 and has been pretty clean since - just about as clean as a frequent hitter can be. Ovechkin deserves a lot of credit for that. He didn't have to change.
