There's no point in getting rid of Weber unless it's for a 2nd rounder. If we have injuries, which we will, he'll be useful.

Bouillion btings grit and Weber brings offensive limp spaghetti.
They both have something different to offer.
Having signed Subban I don't think would've meant we wouldn't have signed the cube.
As for weber, it's either him or kaberle at the moment, only time and the signing of subban will tell how that plays out.

But, If it were up to me weber and kaberle would be dealt to bring in a more robust, gritty stay at home type Dman

Problem is that there's no way a deal like that can be done unless we throw in a pick or something else. Kaberle is now a boulder and we're pretty much stuck with it.

I agree. Why trading an asset that may be useful and is really cheap too? Weber isn't that bad, we just have no room for him right now. With injuries, as you say, we'll need him.

But if we sign Subban or otherwise get another D-Man in front of him on the active depth chart, it might be fair to the guy to give him a chance elsewhere. But you don't give him away for nothing. I like the idea of a 2nd rounder. Also, maybe, young prospect goalie who could be Price's backup in future years. We have no depth in nets, especially with Budaj's deal coming to an end and his probably leaving to be a starter somewhere.

I hope we are just shopping Kaberle because man everytime he has the put my nerves go way up. Weber should get a chance soon. I thinkhe would do well on the 3rd pairing with frankie

This will be the amazing source of events.
Don't get confused, you have seen this before.
We trade Weber for nothing.. 5th round pick.
We lose Subban for very little because of incompetent Management.
Powerplay struggles due to a lack of a point shot.
Montreal overpays for an aging or one-dimensional blue-liner (to the tune of a 2nd round pick+) to help the powerplay.
Powerplay marginally improves but we still miss the play-offs.
The aging blue-liner who performed adequately is lost to free agency for nothing. Thus flushing our 2nd round pick down the toilet.

if it's any consolation...I wished the habs re-signed the wiz. loved his shot from the point on the pp! he would be a much better fit than kaberle. better player to boot.

I'd trade Weber to Ottawa for Bishop. Spare parts for both teams and Ottawa would get similiar value to the 2nd pick they traded for bishop and we get a good back up on the cheap once Budajs contract expires this year.

I didnt see it posted anywheres or in other threads.

Probably because both teams need defense due to injuries and such. Muller is fimiliar with Weber from Montreal.

He's excess baggage, weak defensively and disappointing on the PP. I wouldn't expect more than a third round pick (and a bit of extra room on the cap) in return. I'd be ecstatic if the Habs got a second rounder in 2013 or even 2014,

I see the muller connection, but Carolina does not seem like a fit. They already have McBain, Faulk, and Pitkanen. All of whom are infinitely better PP options than Weber

Ottawa has Karlsson, Gonchar, and Benoit. Maybe he fits on the 2nd unit.

Whatever the case, don't expect much in return.

Can you describe/compare Yannick to another nhl player?

He has a really powerful shot. He looked like he was pretty good at using it early in his NHL career, but last year, he had a really hard time getting it on net. Whenever he was pressured, he would just shoot it randomly and it would kill our PP.

Physically, he's not weak, but he's not very strong either. His defensive game needs some polishing, but ultimately, he's a PP specialist. He scored 4 goals last year, playing very little and more often than not, on the fourth line instead of on defense.

In his last stint in the AHL, he had 8 goals in 12 games. He really is too good for the AHL. As many have mentionned, it's all mental in Weber's case. He was asked to be the go-to guy on the PP last year, a role he was not ready to fullfil. Some may not remember this, but the guy was drafted in 2007, same year as Subban, but for some reason, it's inconceivable that he still has maturing and growing to do. I'm guessing that his stint in Geneva probably helped him boost his confidence though. He has recently assured that he has not requested a trade, saying he's patiently waiting his turn. He sounds hungry, and I think he'll come out strong when he finally gets his chance to shine this season.

My opinion--and many disagree--is that he hasn't been given enough time on defense. He has spent most of his time with the Canadiens as a forward and it's really hard for a defenseman to shine playing 4th line grinder.

I think he can mature into a decent player. Maybe even a good one. If he's not traded in the upcoming weeks, I have faith he'll play his way into a permanent spot in the line-up for the rest of the season, especially with Kaberle being at the end of his rope.

Weber was as good if not better than PK in the OHL.

Give him a fair chance, please.

I watched them both in the OHL and I think Subban was a much better player than Weber was. Sure they had a similar point totals, but there's so much more than that. But that's just my opinion :dunno:

Ugh all we could get for him is a milk crate of hockey pucks and a low pick............

keep him, there is always someone who gets hurt.

if we have any spare parts, that do not fit the long term plans, this is the year they need to go...for picks in this draft.

They were both on loaded teams at their peaks, but I think Subban was indeed much more dynamic. But then, Subban has progressed so much as a pro that it's kind of useless to look back to junior.

Anyway, I think I'd like to see Weber get a chance somewhere else *if* we keep Subban. We'd be ok with what we have. And I think there's some chance Weber can play in the league. Most players move around a bit, they don't get drafted, become stars, and stay forever with the team that drafted them. Weber is probably one of the many that will need to find a home.

But not yet. I want to try to trade Kaberle first. See if we can get anything for him. Then Weber is a cheap alternative for next year too, while we have our other prospects on D developing. I'd be in no hurry to move him. So you'd have to overpay me now. But ultimately, I'd plan on a future without him.
