The world jr a challenge is on now close to where I live. Canada has two teams (east and west) and then Sweden, Latvia and the USA. I’m going to go to the semis and medal games next week.

Sweden played the local jr a team in an exhibition and beat the 12-0.

It’s been an interesting tournament so far. Canada West and USA were the class of the round robin finishing 1-2. First semi is on shortly between the two Canadian teams and then Sweden vs USA play tonight.

The Stanley cup is here on display today, too.

Edit: Canada East only won a single game in the round robin but just booked a spot in the finals with a 3-1 win. Canada West, who won the round Robin, will play for bronze. They have the tournaments two leading scorers. Third place is Mike Knuble’s son, Cole.

Canadian TV channel reports cause of death of Russian hockey player Kazbekov

OTTAWA, December 18. /TASS/. CTV Channel (Ontario, Canada) named a possible cause of the death of Russian hockey player Abakar Kazbekov. According to the news outlet, the 18-year-old forward who played for London Knights, a club of the Ontario Junior Hockey League (OHL), fell out of the window of an apartment building.

"A man fell to his death Saturday from a downtown London, Ont. apartment building. The London Police Service (LPS) Major Crime Section is investigating after the body was found on the sidewalk Saturday morning," CTV reported. "Hours later, CTV News London learned the deceased was London Knights forward Abakar Kazbekov," the TV channel added.

On Saturday, the OHL and the London Knights issued a joint statement saying that Abakar Kazbekov had died at the age of 18. The cause of the athlete's death was not reported. The London Knights canceled Saturday's game against the Flint Firebirds due to the tragedy. Kazbekov was a trainee of the Podolsk-based Vityaz club. The Russian has been playing for the London Knights since 2021.

USA are through to the gold medal game after an exciting 4-3 win over Sweden. They looked amazing in the first but were only up 1-0 after the period. I don’t know what happened but Sweden then scored 3 straight early in the second.

That brings us to possibly one of the worst sequences I’ve ever seen. One of Sweden’s dmen takes a delay of game penalty and the USA scored. 3-2. He comes out of the box and on the very next play shoots the puck out again from the very same spot. 3-3 right before the end of the period. I only noticed him on the ice twice in the third and he wasn’t easy to miss at 6-5 215.

Knuble had the game winner in the third. USA plays Canada east for gold today and Sweden plays Canada west.

That Collin Graf kid's skating must just suck. It appears he transferred from Union to Quinnipiac and, while he didn't have a bang up year last season, he didn't suck either. Regardless, that's some serious scoring chops.

They had to postpone the Rockford Ice Hogs game after half of the first period and evacuate the seating area because of a tornado warning. It was the same cell that produced that huge tornado in iowa

I think I've told this story before but here goes again. My grandparents took me to an Icecaps game at Dorton, it was an afternoon game right around this time of year I think.

There may or may not have been a tornado nearby (a warning was issued IIRC), but sheets of rain and hail pelted the arena. The PA Announcer told everyone to huddle as close as they could to the rink for fear of flying glass.

Ultimately it passed and the game continued but that was some scary shit. Dorton Arena is not a place to ride out such storms.

Tampa has hosted a couple of Frozen Fours already. Would be cool if Raleigh could get one, probably not, but would be cool.
