Shakhtar beat Dynamo Kiev 4:3 in Kiev in a match which saw two red cards and the same player score an own goal twice. Shakhtar look rebound from last season as their lead at the top is now 13 points
Argentina all wrapped up. Estudiantes lost the league with the last 4 games. Having gone undefeated up until that stretch where they didn't muster up a single win. Boca in the end won. What a meltdown.
Tevez cried in his last game...he's on his way to China.
Went to the Feyenoord - Vitesse game about a week ago. Great game, good energy. Kuyt was, as always, everywhere and Berghuis had a brace. Nice to see the Winter Champions up 4 going into the break.
Petr Vrba, who coached the Czech national team to a pathetic showing at the Euro, possibly in part because he agreed to a job with Makhachkala during it, has now been let go after just six months with the team.
Not surprising. Anzhi was just sold by Kerimov, so the new owner axed Vrba ASAP. In addition to bad results, a lot of their players are rumored to be leaving, and I mean A LOT: Berisha, Boli, Budkivskiy, Lazić, Xandão, and Iličević all have been linked with moves out.
Benfica extend their lead in Portugal to six points after Porto dropped points at Pacos de Ferreira. Sporting CP/Braga a distant third for now which is the last CL spot.
Tom Tomsk have all but conceded relegation. Due to financial troubles (rumors players haven't been paid all season), they let most of their players go. Eric Bicfalvi, their best player went to Ural today.
Strange matchday in Turkey, the top four all drop points with Besiktas, Galatasaray and IBB all losing. Galatasaray's was most damaging as they were at home against a bottom three side and already knew Besiktas/IBB lost
Istanbul Basaksehir, something of a "new rich" club in Turkey where they bought some experienced Turkish internationals rather than foreigners (though they did recently buy Adebayor ) and they are a lot more stable than their neighbors in sticking with their manager and having a clear plan
However, it is important to note they seem to be government backed, some speculate Ergogan is involved too. They also have few fans and aren't popular among the "big three's" ultras
Tielemans needs to make the next step up in his development, to a team that is challenging in a top 5 (preferably top 4) league title and European competition. Otherwise he'll just become another Dennis Praet. Even though it's quite early to write Praet off.
Argentina league has been postponed. The AFA had planned to start this weekend, but the players informed them they're striking...The FA had the audacity to even schedule the games.
Is their a bigger joke right now than Argentinean soccer?
