only teen girls listens to Uniklubi ;)

There's some better Finnish bands

Mokoma
CMX
Stam1na
Viikate
Maj Karma
Kotiteollisuus

agree with all, and will add teräsbetoni(for amusement), zen cafe, apulanta, nightwish(pre swede), sonata arctica and apocalyptica as a few extra. granted sonata, apocalyptica and nightwish to a lesser extent dont fall into the categories of most of bands mentioned, they still have some great stuff. viikate is easily my fav tho, with stam1na and apulanta bringin up the rear

...oh and how come nobody recommended fintelligens, pikku g(ay) or kapasiteettiyksikkö:biglaugh::biglaugh:

The best album of 2007 was Reverend Bizarre's So Long Suckers:yo:

If you prefer punk check out Radiopuhelimet, Terveet Kädet, Wasted etc... Or if you like brit-pop check out Aeroflop's album, brilliant stuff.

How can you not mention Darude, when nearly all NHL arenas still play his ages old hit Sandstorm? Cracks me up every time that song is played.. that was big like ten years ago.

That's why. ;)

The same applies to Bomfunk MC's and "Freestyler".

how about HIM?
I used to like them but know it's starting to get little bit boring. You just can't make album after another about broken hearts. They are talented but maybe time to do something new music-wise. Razorblade Romance is still their best work and the EP before that. They still get air time in my stereos.

No one mentioned Nightwish yet? Or do they not count because the lead singer is a Swede now? :D
I like them! The latest album is a master piece. Some old fans don't like the poppish sound of the new singer but live they are good and the sound not so poppish.

i dont have a prob with the new singer or if she sounds pop-like, i think its just that i havent gotten used to it yet. i have the album on my ipod, but i normally just play amaranth since that song is good. im sure the album is fantastic, those guys are musical geniuses. as for anette vs tarja, i loved tarjas operatic voice. it turned ho-hum songs into sincere and personal ones. anette too has a great voice(and shes hot:D) as well but its night and day difference. i do understand why they wanted to go in another direction and not get another similar singer to tarja. i think i just have to listen to it more and then ill like it better

Nightwish is actually coming to Vancouver in May, I'm super-excited about it. Though unfortunately I never got to see them while Tarja was the lead singer.

Sonata Arctica is also in Vancouver next month, that should be awesome too. :yo: They actually came through town a couple of years ago too, so this will be the second time that I catch them.

Metal is mostly boring, and since it's so mainstream in Finland, Finnish metal is more boring than other metal. Good music is good music, so good metal is good metal, though.

Here's some indieish pop, pop and rock, and progRock!

Rubik
Oh, Am I, mere human, even worthy to listen these gods!

Magenta Skycode
They're better than Radiohead. Not much in YouTube, that's shame. Check out
also darker This Empty Flow, same leader there.

Musta Paraati
Forget metal. This is dark and scary! Legendary new wave/punk from 80's. In Finnish, but it's hard to tell!

22Pistepirkko So effin' beautiful. The elder Finnish indie legends and their best piece of work.

Kingston Wall
Rock!

Manboy Great androgynicalish pop. Actually I don't like this song. They used to be better.

Sister Flo Just wow. Wow. You don't have to yell and bang to get your message through.

Poverty Stinks One of the best pop songs ever written.

Disco Ensemble They're supposed to be very hip.

And lots more. Of course most of the best Finnish music is in Finnish: Absoluuttinen Nollapiste, Karkkiautomaatti, Liekki, PMMP...

I'm also a big Nightwish fan and I've got all of their albums. I just figured that they don't need a mention considering they're already one of the three most successful Finnish bands internationally. And their popularity in Finland in particular is absolutely incredible, no other band comes even close these days.

Although I've got to say that I still like Oceanborn and Wishmaster the most. The latest album was fine overall, but also their first one that didn't include what I would call a masterpiece.

And I'm not that fond of Anette. I've got nothing against Swedish singers - Jussi Björling for instance is my favorite singer of all time - but Anette's voice just isn't my thing.

Here's some indieish pop, pop and rock, and progRock!

Thanks for mentioning 22-Pistepirkko, the late Kingston Wall and Poverty Stinks (what ever happened to them anyway?)! Seems like this thread is starting to become more than just a collection of 'answers' to one guy's questions, and since the topic is already broad enough, I'll add some new styles into the equation:

Värttinä - terrific folk lineup

Irina Björklund - well known as an actress here in Finland, but very underrated as a musician. In addition to playing musical saw, she sings in five different languages in her latest album and pronounces four of them better than just about any other Finnish vocalist (Finnish being the exception to the rule of course). Great interpreter as well.

Oh, and while I'm at it...I already posted the link, but you absolutely need to check out Skull Flag by Honey B & T-Bones. Aija "Honey B" Puurtinen has to be one of the best female vocalists in Finland!

Heh, well...PMMP appear to be one of those bands that you either like or hate. No middle ground there.

I concur. I just gave her other songs a listen, too, and I must admit I didn't remember her being this good. She's a rarity in Finnish popular music that desperately needs more quality singers. Too bad her style doesn't fit my taste, but at least she's refused to sacrifice that style for more fame.
