Poor Rosen, I’m a fan of his and it sucks to see a broadcaster decline like that

Matt Murray sucks. That is all.
Oh. My. God.

I don’t know what happened to Hogberg, but he started the game, allowed a really bad goal to put them down 1-0 and played another 1.5 minutes and Murray played the rest of the game. I’m not sure if the bad goal got Hogberg yanked or if it was injury related.

Murray comes in and allows 6 goals and 5 of them (the last 5 he allowed, after having no chance on the first one he allowed) ranged from stoppable at best to just downright ugly. He won’t get softy of the night, but this catapults him to leading the league in my stoppable goal count by 3 goals past Koskinen. He was already tied with Hogberg for second in the league.

Hogberg is one away from being tied for second with Koskinen. The Sens have had a bigger problem in goal so far than anything with the defense, which is pretty bad itself.

And once again, Murray’s contract is asinine.

Goals against review for tonight’s games

Devils vs Bruins: 2 goals against Blackwood, no chance on either. 3 goals against Halak, 1 stoppable.

Rangers vs Flyers: 2 goals against Georgiev, no chance on either. 2 goals against Hart, no chance on either.

Islanders vs Penguins: 3 goals against Varlamov, 1 stoppable. 1 goal against Jarry, no chance.

Predators vs Blue Jackets. 2 goals against Saros, 1 stoppable. Merzlikins gets the shutout.

Senators vs Maple Leafs: 1 goal against Hogberg and it’s stoppable. 6 goals against Murray in relief, 5 stoppable. 3 goals against Hutchinson, 2 stoppable.

Sabres vs Capitals: 3 goals against Ullmark, 1 stoppable. 1 goal against Vanecek and it’s stoppable.

Sharks vs Blues: 3 goals against Jones, 1 stoppable. 2 goals against Binnington, no chance on either.

Kings vs Coyotes: 2 goals against Quick, 1 stoppable. 2 goals against Kuemper, no chance on either.

Wild vs Ducks: 1 goal against Kahkonen, no chance. 3 goals against Gibson, 1 stoppable.

So that’s 42 goals scored on goalies, 16 are stoppable. That’s 38% of the goals scored were stoppable. Combined save percentages were .918%.

Softy of the night is this Cam Atkinson goal on Saros. Is it okay for this goal to be softy of the night? Of course it deflects, but Saros still had time and looked to fall asleep even before that. This looks like a “Please fire John Hynes” goal against. Domingue allowed an incredibly bad one in Hynes final game before being fired here.

Brooklyn via NJ, like the Nets
Crossposting from the Preds board.
I’m honestly at the point I might just stop watching games until we replace Hynes. I can deal with being bad and losing but we generate so little offense it isn’t even entertaining. Like did we even have a legitimate scoring chance all game?
Honestly, I felt the same way in the last couple of months of Hynes, and for a good chunk of his tenure in general. He isn’t just bad. He’s so bad he’s unwatchable.

Rosen called Nolan Patrick ‘Nolan Ryan’ lol

And I thought him calling Blackwood 'Blackwell' was bad.

Sam's getting a bit too old for this announcing gig, apparently.

Then again, take a look at who is doing the announcing for the Blue Jackets(for example) :

Has done over 2000+ games and is still sharp as a tack.

I don’t much care for him, only because he sounds exactly like Martin Sheen. Listen to Martin Sheen and tell me they don’t sound like the same person.

A guy named Blackwell currently plays for the New York’s Rangers so that’s somewhat understandable.

Nolan Ryan used to play for the Rangers, but those were Texas Rangers in 1993.

Considering the big bucks he gets paid to do play-by-play, I'm not feeling at all sorry for him.
Yeah, he gets to retire wealthy in his mid-70s as a beloved awarding winning legendary NYC sports announcer. It’s not exactly a dire fate. And not going anywhere yet.

The Buffalo game was only Domingue’s third game in NJ, different bad goaltending had already kneecapped Hynes. If Fitz learned anything from Shero it’s that there’s no place for wishful thinking with goaltenders and bad goaltending alone can kill you.

Jesus I forgot that guy ever played for us.
You probably psychologically blocked out the horrors you witnessed, Domingue had a sweet 3-8-2 record and that wasn’t bad luck, he earned it.

You do wonder what Hynes' tenure would've looked like with even halfway decent goaltending; maybe his seeming lack of a defensive plan was due to issues stemming from the poor netminding, that kind of thing. But man, it's amazing how he went over to Nashville and it just seemed like watching the poorer Devils teams he coached. Thank God we still got Mercer with that first rounder from Arizona, because when we got knocked out of potentially having two top tens last season I was pissed and I couldn't help but peg it on Hynes having the Preds playing the way Jersey had been.

Coaching is important in hockey, but there's no way it should have that much of an impact on a team's quality, but I think Hynes' issue seems to be forcing square pegs into round holes when it comes to how he wants his rosters to play.

It was due to poor netminding. Schneider and Domingue were 100% the worst goalies in the NHL last year, depending on who happened to be on the roster. I can’t remember if we had both on our NHL roster at the same time, but I think we did when Blackwood had that suspected concussion in January. How anyone thought Schneider was bouncing back, I’ll never understand. As the odds were already almost completely against him after the first two decline seasons and already being 32-33 by his third decline season.

Saros actually got better last year after the Hynes hire, but I think Rinne was just as bad as before it. He’s likely just cooked due to age.

Saros has been poor this year (look at that second goal he allowed last night. Pathetic) and Rinne is just another year older and that much more well done.

But his teams just don’t generate offense and when the goaltending is poor (which is mostly because Schneider and Rinne are washed up and Kinkaid and Domingue aren’t any good and who knows with Saros?) Hynes seems to really have no answer but to put it in super conservative mode. I’m sure a lot of coaches do that, but Hynes really had no answers but to do that. And that was really an infuriating problem with him.

I just don’t think he’s any good as a head coach in the NHL, at least not yet. Maybe he’ll get another crack down the road if Nashville is indeed about to dunk him (I thought he would have to be an assistant somewhere first before he got another head coaching gig in the league and then came Nashville) and maybe he’ll have better goalies by then and maybe he able to do better for himself by then.
