Most GMs would love a Maatta on their team. GMs love cup winning Defensemen, He's a fine #4/#5 guy, i dont get the hate on this player.

Chi will very likely need to take some cap back to move him and they likely wouldn't get anything of value for him at this point. Many team wont have a lot of cap to operate with and OM doesn't bring enough to justify the problems the cap could cause. Even for teams with a lot of space there will be better options available elsewhere for teams looking to make room.

If that's the case, then the Hawks would just buy him out. His buyout is 680k so they'd be willing to retain a little more to not have the extra two years of dead cap. They wouldn't retain more than $1M though.

That might be the best option depending on what else they could do with the cap space. Although its not like Chi hasn't pulled off highway robbery before so anything is possible when you have a GM with a history like that

He's completely tradeable. Not asset attached and no retention or salary coming back. He was rock solid this year.
Hmmmm it sure you watching the right player ....he was OK at best..rock solid is a bit of a stretch....

Didn’t Cancer kinda ruin his development?

That and a handful of 983 injuries. He's super injury prone and has only once played a full 82 game season.

If he was making like 3 mil, then he'd be a much more attractive option at just 25 years old. Chicago can't afford to retain any money on his deal though and its not like they have a bunch of better dmen waiting in the wings or anything. That blueline is pretty abysmal.

Only on HFBoards does a guy who was traded for value a year ago go to negative value after having a completely normal season for his standards.

It's called a flat cap casualty. Google it.

Also we only got Kahun and 5th rounder back for him. Fortunately, it was rectified by flipping Kahun for Sheary, but it's not like Maatta had a TON of value at the time of his trade. He's been exceedingly below average for several years. Thats why he's no longer on our team.

Watched every hawks game. Pretty sure he's white, blonde hair, wears number 6, shoots left and wears a maatta jersey. But I could be wrong on the identity of the mystery Finn.

He would need to be sheltered. He’s OK on the bottom pairing. The Pens, though, kept trying him in a bigger role in order to get the most out of him - and his contract.

He is what he is at this point. He can move the puck and chip in offensively. However, the rest of his game is subpar, mainly due to his skating.

My guess is we either retain 20% or buy him out or take back a contract that is bad but less and or shorter. he is fine probably a # 5 on most good teams. the problem is shaw is LTIR and Seabs is untradable. he is the only contract were we could free up a little space. its only 2 years at 4 mil is not a massive contract and it ends when he is 27.
