You honestly think he's in the same tier as Doughty, Karlsson, Josi, Pietro, Hedman?

With a verbal agreement to re-sign at a minimum it would be Klef+Puljujarvi+ 2018 1st just for OEL there wouldn't be another piece added to OEL and even then I don;t think the Coyotes bite.
Basically this. With verbal agreement it's as good as a sign and trade, and the price to pay for OEL in a sign and trade is probably close to what you offered, but no way Arizona adds something on top of that. Especially a young talent like Domi.

Not being a top five D in the entire league does not mean you aren't a 1D. Furthermore, OEL's possession numbers and P/60 at even strength are not too far off from those guys, and he usually sees more defensive zone starts to boot than most of them, in addition to having inferior QoT.

OEL is very close. He might not be top 5 but he is top 15 for sure. keep in mind his crappy team, this years D partner Jason Demers, last years D partner Connor Murphy, and the year before that world beater ZM. The Oilers don't have a D in the top 40.

What are Arizona's needs? Instead of throwing good prospects or players, how about offering something they value?

OEL looked great playing with Adam Larsson yesterday in the Worlds, and would make a great addition to the Oilers blue line. Is this fair?

:coyotesOscar Klefbom, Jesse Puljujarvi, 2018 1st

:edmontonOliver Ekman-Larsson (Verbal agreement to re-sign), Max Domi
Seems like a very fair deal to me. Arizona fans will probably think they should get more for OEL but pretty much everyone on this site over values their players.

If you took out Domi it'd be closer although you'd still be hard pressed to find anyone who would have interest in saying yes. Especially since we expect to be playoff competitive within the next few seasons and trading our 1D without ensuring we have a 1D coming back would derail all that.

Domi's value isn't exactly at a high point right now. The way I see it Domi for Pool Party is more or less a fair swap although maybe in Arizona's favor a little bit. That means Arizona is getting Klefbom and 10th overall for OEL. Maybe Edmonton would have to add a little bit but relative to most offers on this board it's pretty close. If Domi was taken out of the deal that's a steal for Arizona.

Exactly, Domi's trade value isn't high, so why would we sell low on him? Especially after he finished the season with 23 points in the last 28 games and 15 in the last 14? We need skilled young players at all positions under cost control and he will continue to be one of those for the next few seasons. I expect Domi to rebound next year being a 50 point winger, potentially more.

We flipped Yandle when he had one year left on his contract for a first, Duclair, a 2nd, and John Moore. Given that OEL is a legitimate two-way 1D, we should be able to return better than that if he were on the block, especially if he's going to a division rival (and he's not).

One trade doesn't always equal another trade being better or worse. Trades aren't made in a vacuum. Either way, the 10th overall pick is worth a lot more than the late first Arizona got from the Rangers for Yandle. Pool party is worth a lot more than Duclair was, and Klefbom is an already established second pairing D who has more value than a 2nd and a mid level prospect like Moore who was already going to his 3rd organization. Adding Domi changes the dynamic significantly but the other pieces involved are far more valuable than what went in the Yandle trade.
