Can someone explain why the **** Yak is on the third line behind Korpi? Lander and Slepy are decent players but aren't going to drive much on that line. The times Yak has gotten a shot with skilled offensive players he has looked decent.

Nailed the 3-1 lost against the blues!
Tonight is a winable game if talbot plays at his best. Trashville creates alot but its often clean shots with little traffic so talbot has a chance to see them.

Trashville win the shots 35-22 But Oilers win the game 3-1 the third in emty net.

No one knows. Maybe he enjoys working with Lander. Maybe the coach thinks consistency with a linemate will work really well. Maybe it was determined by random spin of wheel by Maggie the Monkey.

I am trusting in McLellan.

But which center does Hall really mesh with? He and RNH haven't been a good match since RNH's early years, RNH has played best without Hall. Hall and McDavid did play very well together at the worldsand showed some flashes in preseason so I think Mclellan should have stuck with it a little longer.

In any event, anytime you have Purcell, Korpikoski and even Pouliot (without Eberle on his line) in your top 6, it's going to be tough to score. The 3rd line will likely be their most dangerous line, that's not conducive to success.

I think that was Crosby...

Yep basically. Yak has struggled so I think they want him to have consistency and not moving him all over the lineup

Doh. Don't know what the heck I was thinking lol.
Maybe everybody calling McDavid the next Crosby caused the confusion for me. Time to take a break from the keyboard.

It's all good everyone watching was drooling over McDavid in bettween the two at the time. Funny how the mind makes you beleive something when you obsess over it for so long!

That Oiler lineup is so underwhelming. Outside of Slep-Lander-Yak, there's really nothing to get excited about.
I think the Oilers get pistol whipped tonight and have an extremely tough time scoring, probably something like 4-1. It would be nice if they could score their first of the season tonight, an actual Oiler goal. If McDavid doesn't score tonight which I think is likely, it's gonna get ugly around here.

We have a generational prospect on our team in only his second ever NHL game, and he's not on the list of things to be excited about?

I mean, you can be spoiled and need another generational prospect to come along to get excited about because the current one is boring after 1 scoreless game, it makes no difference to me. I just can't fathom how people are so soured around here so quickly. There's still 81 games left in the season, how ridiculous is it going to be to look and and remember how at game 1 everyone was going nuts/dejected already.

Edit: I'll add to that, that everyone who's down and out already are really showing their true colors as far as being reasonable, knowledgeable hockey fans goes. For god sakes, everyone should know that you don't jump off the bridge after one bad day. I'm glad the people running the show are not you guys. ****

Just noticed we are the only team on the GDT on the mainboards who doesn't deserve a logo. Just a sad face instead of where our's should be.

I say let them jump. Might make reading posts here a bit more pleasant

Think McLellan has Korpikoski there for some more speed, forechecking, and defensive conscience on McDavid's line. We could very well see Yakupov in that spot in home games where we have last change and can adjust accordingly, jmo.

Goodness... I feel like I need to take an antidepressant before browsing through this GDT. Some of you need to chill and let things manifest a few games before leaning over the edge.

just wait until the Oilers home opener on Thursday, ...if Yak is still on the 3rd line?..crowd will start chanting "You don't know what you're doing!" at McLellan.

I think McLellan is not quick to change certain things. Also, as good as Yak has been and as supportive the fans are of him now, if McLellan puts him in the top 6 and he does badly, there will be the same crowd of people turning on Yakupov and wanting him traded for nothing like what we saw last year.

It's still so early, and I'm fine with McLellan not taking the knee-jerk style of decision making. He is a great coach and will give Yak his due in time.

In this thread..

People not understand line make up and just think putting your best players at the top is how to form lines. If so the majority of teams in the league are doing it wrong.

Hall - RNH - Purcell
The line makes sense for the fact that Purcell needs skilled players to cover for his faults and he would be even more of a liability.

Pouliot - McDavid - Korpikoski
McDavid gets 2 vets to help, Korpikoski is good on the forecheck and pretty good at possession, Pouliot can crash the net and has a pretty good finishing ability and getting to the open spots.

Slepy - Lander - Yakupov is a line that might actually be our best line due to all 3 being tenacious forechekers and both wingers having killer shots and Lander having a nose for the net.

The one thing we have to remember is the staff sees the players in practice and they have more of an idea about what's working and what's not right now then we do. If 10 games in they keep trying things that look weird I'll be concerned too but for the first few games the staff has more to go on then we do.

If the oilers lose, I encourage you not to check the GDT.

I honestly felt the Oilers had a decent effort in their opener against the Blues.

That quickly got swallowed by the overwhelming panic and despair when I opened the PGT.
