I liked Smith this year but I'm skeptical. At his age we are playing a dangerous game that his play falls off a cliff. But I suppose if he does bad we still have options

They did the games played pro-rating across the board, so likely they will do it again next year.
This looch/Neal pro-rating was specially done just to screw us.
Dont worry ...Holland couldnt find a goalie right away ...Murray, Markstrom, and Griess...didnt want to come here...
So Holland bought a short term insurance policy....two months of season.....while he searches for an upgrade or a trade
...but with some assets he wants to see how things shake out
Based on available free agents left at his time of signing. Who?
I’ll wait for the list. Where you provide a bunch of goalies who were extremely poor last year.
There was also a stretch where it was 930 plus.He is not one of the reasons they got to the playoffs. There was an stretch his save percentage was under. 850.
His atrocious save percentage speaks for itself and blaming the 3rd line and defense is ludicrous. The best thing for this team is not to rely on a goalie near 40 years of age.

So the thing we might be forgetting as well, is next season likely isn't 82 games. So that's even less pressure to play Smith and run mostly with Koskinen.
Meh
he provides leadership and costs no assets
Games played and playoff series games played / won. What's the 0.5 bunus for? Games played? Might be affected with a shortened season.
Might be a blessing in disguise because one of those big fish might very well end up having a worse contract than Koskinen’s.All those that loved the Koskinen contract when he signed that ridiculous deal from Chiarelli and company can take a bow now. Because this is exactly what they deserve to get. Oilers simply had very few options to get one of the big fish in the market, and now have to settle for the Smith's of the world.
