Don't forget that after game 5 or 6 they and the media will start talking about how it will be good for the team to get out of town, get away from the pressures of the home city fans and media.

Nice work there Eskie Jetskie. I'm curious what method you used to figure that out? I've got a somewhat brute force method for checking with Excel but I feel there must be a way to have it run automatically...

Also interesting is that teams go 6 times CAL-VAN and only once VAN-CAL.

How does the league justify this? I know we're not looking at the whole picture here but that's a huge advantage for the Canucks. 13 times they get a team travelling on back-to-backs versus 7 for the Oilers and 6 for the Flames.

I notice a handful of games say National - Sportsnet 360.

I assume this means I'd need to upgrade my TV package to view those games? Balls to that.

Surely you didn't think that 12 year deal was going to pay for itself keeping the status quo?

Your sarcasm detector should be beeping right now

Well at least this season the Flames and Oilers are somewhat balanced because the two previous seasons had the back-to-back games significantly favoring Calgary.

I'm not paying for some BS Rogers upgrade to watch these games

They didn't put enough money into the Jays when it mattered the most, so **** them

As NTM said above me, may the stream be with us

Sweet. Can we move this to the original post?

That would be great during the season.

Anyone wanna do a season prediction competition?

Predict the wins and scores, then we can check and see how wrong we were come April?

This is a decent schedule. They just have to weather the storm in the middle. Having a lot of home games early hopefully with translate to wins, which should lead to buy-in.

I agree... the Oilers play 8 of their 1st 11 games on home ice and the teams they face are collectively pretty weak... I think only 3 of those 1st 11 games are versus teams that were above .500 last season... LA, TB and Montreal.

That's about as soft a start as you could want to try and give this team some momentum out of the gate.

The other side of the coin though is that if this team ***** the bed over that "soft" stretch... the season is probably toast by Halloween yet again.

Yep. If you don't have it already.

Such BS. A national game should be available to everyone. Not just those who are willing/able to pony up for some garbage specialty channel that shows crappy UFC fight night cards once every couple of weeks. Looks like I'll have to find a more illicit way to watch the game.

I like equal access as much as anyone, but unless you wanted the publicly owned CBC to pony up the 12B, you're going to have to settle for some slight inequality in the television distribution of hockey games. I would argue that being given the choice to pay for hockey games on your tv is better than being forced to pay for them.

Yah it all boils down to the same thing all the time for me.

I want TSN and Sportsnet. that's it.

I don't want global... ctv.. anything.

Just let me pay for the channels I want.

I'm guessing signing up for the sportnset one package is gonna cost 10 bucks a month and then come with some complimentary useless sportsnet channels or tsn channels I could care less about.

I'm not interested in funding TSN's 5 cable channels when I only watch 2.
Same goes for Rogers.

Yep, if they can get off to a good start and get on a bit of a roll, confidence will be high. Confidence is everything for players, if they have success early, this team could look very different than it has for the last eight years.

Or they could lose off the bat and continue to eat bricks of **** again. Lets hope for the former.

Right now at this moment, TSN's five channels are a bit of a joke. They show the same programming on three, four, and even sometimes all five channels. What's the point of having so many when the same damn thing is on every one? I would hope that, in time there will be more choices per channel, as the alternative is just stupid. Also, I'm pretty annoyed that they didn't replay the labour day game between the Esks and the Stamps. There is absolutely no excuse for not replaying games of importance or interest when you have five channels showing the same crap.

Here! Hear! Well said.

?.....?............

Here is a question.
With the schedule being comfortable at the beginning of the season. If this team slips in the first few games...how long does MacT give Eakins before axing? I say Eakins gets no more than eight games to show this roster under him can win.

The pre-season is not for winning...its for preparing. This team better be ready to hit the ground running on game 1 of the RS or Eakins is toast.
