RFA vs UFA

Plus it is hard to compare them. Those D have more depth around them and better goaltending
It is difficult to compare forward vs Dmen. It is nice that you are trying to be positive, but come on you have homer glasses on. Nurse lacks on most of the attributes compared to these guys. He isn't close to being top5 D. IQ, passing ability, puck handling, lateral movement, offensive insticts, shooting accuracy. If Oilers had a real top5 (or even top10) D with 97 and 29 things would quite a bit different.

Team is clearly exhausted. But continue to over use our top players and run them into the ground, even though they are already not effective at the current pace. Ridiculous.

Coach needs to make changes since continually doing the same thing is obviously not working.

If the oilers do not over use their top players they have zero.zero zero chances of winning hockey games. So you hope draisaitl and mcdavid have good games or you lose.

Yzerman inherited Stamkos and Hedman. Detroit will be the first time he’s actually built a team from the ground up.

The way a lot of people look at GMs is interesting. In some cases, 0 credit is given to the current GM because “half of the players were drafted by the previous GM”.

I’m not as interested in discrediting a current GM of a team for inheriting good players, it’s their decision to keep those players around and add their own good ones. It’s rare that a GM builds everything from scratch and gets to see the fruit of their endeavours, as they often move on before a rebuild can become a contender. One also has to look at the other systems they put in place such as a good development team, analytics etc

(This is in no way a defence of current Oilers management)

Yeah it’s kind of crazy. The only GM who can say he purely built a team is one who took over an expansion team. I agree with your assessment.

Yeah and he built an amazing team
Also look at the junk Holland left him in Detroit. He endured the pain of some hard buyouts and now is reaping the rewards.

The year he took over the team they went to the conference finals. They were already a top team when he took them over. He did an unreal job keeping them on top and eventually putting them over the edge. It’s just completely ridiculous to discredit Holland and chiarelli’s achievements in Boston and Detroit based on “inheritance” then credit guys like Zito and Yzerman. Just not a logical argument.

Truth speaker.

I've loved what Kane has brought this team. He's also a smart, insightful guy. Says an awful lot in his Hawks post game interview without saying a lot. With the smallish sample size of playing on this team his assessment is spot on to really fundamental, systemic issues that abound "more drive" "more grit" "simplify their game".

No excuses, no moral victories, no pom pom raising for the road trip run of big baddy Eastern teams just 'average'.

To be quite honest, I think he is a better fit under Sutter and the Calgary Flames. Seems like their type of player, won't be surprised to see Calgary go after him this summer and steal Kaner away from us.

You're so distorted that you're blaming Nurse and Drai now? They were the two stars on this team that didn't try to quit on the coach and tried to persevere, and generally try to persevere. Entertain for a moment what this Oilers club would look like without Drai and Nurse contributions. you know, the guys every coach here throws big minutes at to try to keep the boat from sinking.

Even after last night you're living in a fantasy where Woodcroft is going to transform with his power stance. Some of the gunk I've had to read on the board over the last month is painfully deluded.
They’re not free of blame, just like Woodcroft isn’t free of blame.

Idk man. It's getting to the point where I'm caring less and less about this team. The team is so far away from contending that it's not even worth the effort tuning in for every game. That would be such a chore in my opinion.

Basically we've reverted back and forth on which goalie of the two is the worst in the league. So not surprising that McDavid has lost the will to play I suppose. And that the team is entering the hard part of the schedule with no playoff spot.

And over working then isn't working. Time to try something else.

We all really deserve an award for keeping up with this team.
