Mactavish doesn't do talent evaluations unfortunately. Once he's decided he doesn't like a player - they are gone. We saw it with Smid, and we are seeing it now with Petry.

It's not something that requires logic or common sense to him(or anyone else), because it's based on his gut instincts(ie - he emotionally decides things). Hence where he shows his support tends to be full of inconsistencies and double standards(kind of like how Eakins is a great coach, and Nelson can do no right).

The really funny thing is, he's actually stated that he believes he's a strong and decisive talent evaluator when referencing his past as a coach

Conversely, when he decides he likes a player, no amount of logic or sub-par play will affect his thoughts going forward or his utilization of that player. Which is why I believe Petry is being shown the door to make more room for someone with "Norris potential".

I view it a little differently. On a toxic org any player that has been around for too long a period of time is viewed with suspicion as in they've seen too much and need to be shown the door because they might start talking or something or already have. This is what led to Smids departure, Perron fasttracked his own, as did Yakupov (I still worry about it)

This team takes any critique, even completely valid, unkindly, and harshly deals with anybody perceived to be doing that. Its the Souray sorry saga.

Hell hath no fury like an Oiler org scorned.

Lets not forget the ill-fated Corey Perry for Mike Comrie and the bonus-payback debacle.

Yep. Its all the same **** from a pathetic org and management team. No wonder they need to pay people 6m to work for them and shutup.

Can only pay so many of the players that kind of money though so...

I would love to see the ironclad boiler-plate non-disclosure clauses they have written in every contract from Joey Moss on up.

The First Rule of Oilers Club is YOU DO NOT TALK ABOUT OILERS CLUB!!

The Second Rule of Oilers Club IS......

And that's why they need to constantly recycle or shuffle out the guys that aren't the "core" players. Perpetual rebuild.

Neither of them are worth a damn. They are both pretty mediocre backup goalies who can play decent enough behind a good team. Neither of them are able to carry the load as a starter, and neither of them are really able to steal a game, Scrivens for about 2 weeks last year notwithstanding.

Didn't watch the game tonight, so have no idea what went down. Sounds like the team played terrible. Pretty rare that a team that gives up 7 does so just because the goaltending is bad.

Didn't we say the same thing about Dubnyk last year?

Perhaps the problem lies as much with the awful team in front of them?
