Well, I dont recall Cal Nichols trying to lure any aspiring actresses. There’s that.

Well, can any of us really say what a certain nature of hollywood temptation might do to any of us? I know @Cloned might have some difficulty resisting, probably others.

Thats the thing with vice. Give us all the cash we could ever spend, limitless finances, overwhelming freedom to use that in any way, how would people respond?

I'm a nice guy, but honestly who knows, success corrupts. Billions corrupt more. Cal Nichols never really had that problem. Not close to it. Most billionaires are some kind of weird, comes with the territory and most of them are. Katz isn't quite Howard Hughes in that regard, albeit I could be wrong..hehe

Oh I’d make the tabloids and TMZ every day, for sure.

He also made a candid suggestion about who was wearing the boots in the Pronger family as opposed to who he thought should be. He also went on length describing how he and Lowe were on a plane trip with the Oilers and they could tell Mrs Pronger was going to be a problem, she was still in love with STL, not adapting to Edmonton etc. It left a real bad image (again) to the NHLPA of what playing in Edmonton was like.

It was really embarrassing just being an Edmontonian at all while Cal Nichols was one of the owners of this club.

Katz doesn't come close to spewing that kind of home grown backwater swill.

edit; This post was wrong and I'll try harder next time...;) I blame it on being out in the hot sun in the hottub..

Darryl Katz has made the Oilers the biggest joke not only in North America' my buddies in Australia look at the Oilers as the most embarrassing team in hockey in America. Oilers are becoming known worldwide for the wrong reasons ....

The oilers have been the worst org in pro sports in the last decade. Not hockey, any sport.

meh, if you really looked into the allegations of Katz scandal, the one everybody is referring to, its been well established that the two individuals involved in outing him were an escort/slash actress and her ex con boyfriend who were looking for settlement money. They have since moved onto bigger fish to fry in Mexico and trying to attract Mexican moguls.

At worst Katz was an idiot for having any involvement at all with those two individuals. Not sure if you are talking about something else.

In anycase I take the feedback that it sounds like I was defending Katz. As we all know I have a flair for closing statements, when in reality its not a defensible end statement. So I accept the rebuke, and I'll strive for more accurate reporting next time. ;)
I wasn’t referring to his me too moment but more that him getting rid of the liason person. It’s true we don’t know the details of that which I said your comments were fair on that. I also believe we’ve seen enough on how he operates this organization that he doesn’t deserve the benefit of the doubt with anything regarding the team. Again, I don’t care about the actress thing and I think it should be separated from the team. Sounded to me, (maybe I’m wrong) that you were arguing that he is blamed for more than he deserves to be overall. That was my take from your posts in this thread. From reading your opinions for years, I was baffled. Maybe I took it wrong.

Considering how much we’ve actually seen of the guy he could be more like Howard Hughes than you think.

Nah, I just said something that was wrong, you corrected me, and its all good. We all say something that's just off from time to time. It was just an in the moment thing. I dislike Katz and what he's done or not done around here, for sure, but I disliked Cal Nichols a whole lot as well. Of the two I can kind of see somebody with big bucks turning out like Katz. Like I said billions of bucks and success corrupts. I give Cal Nichols less excuse just for having some deplorable attitudes that I detected were extremely patriarchical. Which is something that bothers me a lot.

Okay thanks for clarifying. I spent most of the day worrying this was end of days or something.

So sad. So true.

The Cleveland Browns went 0-16 and 1-15 in two of their last ten years and the Oilers still rank below them.

naaa, sorry i still have to give it to the Browns. they took chronic losing to another level. since 1992, they have had exactly 3 winning seasons, not including the 3 seasons they were gone.

The team will not progress until you start seeing salaries from the likes of Lowe, MacT, Howsen, Coffey, etc. removed and transferred into areas such as analytics, scouting, and sports science.

We won't become a year in and out contender without being an organization that is progressive and as competitive and results based as possible. It is completely ridiculous how this team has been run for ages, this is one of the few GM searches that has actually ever been done by the org, and it's being handled with complete incompetence.

How old is Katz son now? Maybe him getting involved with the oilers is our only hope.

What have the Oilers done incompetently in this process so far?

Fair enough but we were discussing since Katz took over in 2008. Still think Oil edge Browns.

Nicholson as the face of hockey operations making a fool of the organisation on numerous occasions. Awkward press conferences and public events, the insanely stupid Rieder comments, awkwardly stating he's asking other front offices for help, saying things like "we haven't being doing things right in Edmonton" when he has been in a position of power and has set the table for this team for years. It just looks really bad, but obviously they haven't pulled the trigger yet so who knows what's going to happen. His insistence that there is great value in the worst front office of the last decade+ discourages the fanbase and serious GM candidates as well. The guy that totally (and basically self admittedly) messed up the first time is very awkwardly going through this org's first wide GM search in decades.

Have you seen who’s leading the process?
That in itself speaks to the continued incompetence of the organization.
It’s like OJ leading the police investigation searching for the murder suspect.
