I'm pretty sure David Staples posts on this site because there's a dude who always complains about Koskinen's glove being weak and he does too.
I'm on to you!

Edit: Almost every goalie in the NHL is garbage glove high.

I think with modern sticks it's certainly much, much more difficult to have a world-class glove.

Agree but how long can we wait
At least 2 more years, he isn't worth a lot on the trading block right now. In the past it was kind of normal for a lot of players to hit their stride at 22-23, especially these young skinny guys that need some weight and muscle to move their frame.

Even a guy like Khaira who has taken time to develop, if he gets even 25% better, he will be very hard to deal with. Not all players develop at the same rate if it be physical or mental. You are even seeing Nuge at a whole new level this year at his age.

I wouldn't panic just yet.

Of all the games to miss from exasperation with this team, it had to be this one!

Looks like McDavid could have had like 5 points tonight. Hope Lucic's confidence lasts more than 5 games. Good for Kassian, I thought he's been pretty unlucky this year.

And Koskinen's glove. wow!

It's a disappointing trend. After all, the basic rule is to have the glove high from the get go, because it's faster to move it down than to move it up when need be. If goalies get beat glove high, it means they didn't have the glove high enough, essentially. But perhaps the amount of shots to glove mid is so high in comparison that's a worthwhile trade off... Still I don't think that goalies should get beat glove high so often.

After Koskinen allowed that first goal I was a little worried, but he truly stole the show for the rest of the game. Some incredible saves, especially with the glove.

Thanks for the response Dave.

The darkest timeline for the Sabres: losing to the Oilers in a game where Lucic and Kassian score most of the goals.

On the plus side, we had a former Sabres player dummy their former team. We’re usually on the receiving end when it comes to former players.

Good one!

I’m happy he scored though. I didn’t watch skills competition but apparently he skated pretty good . Lucic has been playing good. That game against Anaheim and he crushed Montour, that is the Lucic I want. Hopefully they can go on a streak till all star break , get Klefbom back and make playoffs. Saturday night is big. Really big, it will be my 50th birthday as well

If Lucic can keep up this good play and chemistry with Nuge, our lines are starting to look better.

Chiasson - McDavid - Draisaitl
Lucic - Nuge - XXX
Spooner - Khaira - Puljujarvi
Rieder - Brodziak - Kassian

If we trade our first for a top-6 winger, our offensive depth actually looks good. Based on previous seasons, that's a solid bottom-6, and a great top-6.

Gotta agree with ya. I didn’t watch game because I needed break after Saturday stinker. I read in Edmonton Journal that the 3rd line u have listed played good together . Would love to see that line go. With Klefbom coming back after all star break, things could look really good.
I would not have a problem if we traded the 1st Rd pick to pick up a proven scorer for 2nd line. I just don’t wanna make one hole to fill another.
If they make a trade, I would have to say Talbot would be going out, a 1st, and a prospect. People are saying Puju. I still think he will be good. He is still figuring the North American game and growing into his body

The honest truth? Really bad.
I didn’t watch game but I always read player grades in Edmonton Journal. Staples wants to see that line together again. He thinks points will come.
Edmonton is a very tough place to play . Lots of pressure and hate on certain players. One thing about that line ( Spooner,Khaira, Puju) is they all have wheels. It would be a bonus if they could get going

He has not played well since his return from injury, but I thought Rieder had a pretty good game.
He also played exactly the role he should play: Bottom 6 winger and pk specialist.
It was great to see him get on the scoresheet, but even without that Ithought he played rather well. Yes, he still bobbled a few pucks, but he was working well in the corners and had a lot more jump in his game and skated better than he did in a long while. That was also evident on the penalty kill where he cleared the puck several times.

Now let's see if this was a one off for guys like Kassian, Lucic and Rieder, or if they can keep it going.
I am more confident about Kassian and Lucic since they have been playing better for a while and finally got rewarded on the scoresheet.

I don't even know that I expect those three to keep it going. The key really should be that one of our bottom six is scoring night in and night out. However what we need from them is to play their games. In Kassian and Lucic's case physcial/aggressive play, in Kassian and Reider's good PK instincts and in Reider's case solid defensive zone play.

I only watched the second half of the game, but I thought Spooner played worse than Pulju. Spooner shows flashes, but can be such a bonehead with the puck sometimes. He tries to force plays that just aren't there. Pulju just looked off to me, not a normal night for him - lots of try, but no execution.
