That was a pic of the goal from Monday and he tweets it right after Gaunce and Kenins gets sent down? He's probably just psyched the door is still open for him and celebrated it in a poor manner. Accidental BM, I'd say.

It is what it is.

that doesn't mean he performed well, it means the unit was very good. Maybe it has something to do with the twins?

Edler was outperformed on the PP by Yannick Weber last year.

Would you consider Weber an elite offensive D? I wouldn't.

Edler had 22 pts (2 years ago), and then 31 points last year. And he gets fed prime time ice time and loads of PP time.

Simply put, he is not very good offensively.

He gets fed prime ice time because he's our best all round defender. He gets loads of PP time cuz he's been our best option year after year. Is he Duncan Keith out there, no ofcourse not. But he's on the first unit for most teams and on the PP for pretty much every team. I'd love to see him on the 2nd unit where his one timer can be a focal point, but that won't happen until we get better options for the 1st unit.

Maybe Weber/Vrbata give the Sedins 2 one-timer options at the point, freeing Edler up to be the shooter on the 2nd unit. But over the years Eddie has proven he's a good PP player. Not elite, but good.

Is there any reason why people think it's attached to Gaunce/Kenins being sent down other than the timing?

Haha, oh man these boards. Remember when he pouted after being drafted and clearly didn't want to be a Canuck? So of course this tweet/insta was obviously designed to rub it in his teammates faces. What else could it be but the worst possible scenario ...

Pretty sure the PP's production has a lot more to do with the Sedins than Edler.

I think the problem is that it seems his shots get blocked high (near the blueline, close to him) instead of in the traffic right in front of the net. Not only is it more dangerous for a rush the other way, but there's less of a chance that the PP creates something off the loose puck.

Like y'all said, he's not suited to be a PPQB. I'm not blaming him, that's on the coaches. He doesn't have a great shot and although he's an excellent outlet passer, his offensive zone passing is nothing more than regular. Don't know why he keeps being trotted out there.

My overall point is that, statistically, Weber very clearly outplayed Edler on the PP last season and should be kept in the lineup as a specialist. Because of this, he is a lot more valuable than Sbisa even if they are both below average defensively in general.

He does have a pretty great shot—he's been clocked at a high velocity, and, as a poster listed above, he's good at getting it on net.

My biggest problem is his hesitancy to just use the slap shot. He hits shin pads far more when he fakes and throws a weak writer at the net.

The 1st unit wouldn't improve with Tanev over Edler, but I'd certainly try Tanev on the 2nd unit over many of the other options they've used.

gaunce will be back very soon. i don't think you need to feel bad for him just yet

and mccann was just reacting in a veiled way to the incredibly exciting news that he's going to be playing NHL hockey

i can imagine canuckstv putting together a quick video of t-linden or JB calling virtanen/mccann/hutton telling them they're starting the year in vancouver.

it's their M/O

Guance will get his shot once Vey finally gets sent packing, it's only a matter of time.

Need to give up on that so called failed experiment.

Baetschi needs to either score or be gone as well

I do feel bad for Gaunce. He's put his time in and looked ready for a depth role. Hopefully he gets some games in this year.

On the plus side, looks like Virtanen, McCann and Hutton should make the opening night roster. Which makes me actually want to watch this team.

Well one of the three regulars who have been non existent in preseason has finally been sent down.

I am actually surprised they sent Kenins down.

Now they need to do the same with Vey and Corrado.

haha you guys will do anything to create bad news.

Likely McCann was told he's getting 9 games shortly after Gaunce/Kenins were told they were going down. I'm guessing McCann didn't scan his twitter to see that the news was released, and instead just posted the photo because he was ecstatic.

Fine with Gaunce and Kenins getting sent down. Feel like Gaunce could have made the team but a year in the AHL leading the Comets is just fine. We will already have more then enough youth this year.

Let Gaunce learn and he will be even better next year!

It was litteraly one me who suggested that it was BM and I only suggested it.

Don't paint everyone with the same brush now.

Gaunce will get games this year once injuries come. He has a good role on the Comets and will work on his game there and only get better. He will be the first call up with Kenins this year. When the team makes decisions on who to cut they also look at where the player is returning to and how that will impact them.

Just because it's a hard shot doesn't necessarily make it good. Is he ever threatening on the point when he's out there? Do PKers stay near him because they respect his shot? Not really.

I'm Tanev's #1 fan but Weber is definitely the best option for the 1st unit.

Would love to see Hutton - Tanev on the 2nd. Keep Edler off the PP altogether to give him some rest or just give him those extra minutes on ES/PK for which he is much more suited.

Expect #Canucks to demote Hutton, Biega & Cracknell. They'll then put Higgins on in-season LTIR freeing up cap space to recall Hutton (1/2)

Matthew Sekeres ‏@mattsekeres now15 minutes ago

(2/2) So it is conceivable that Virtanen, McCann and Hutton could all be in opening night lineup, or on roster. #Canucks

Same. Gaunce looked ready but McCann looked....more ready.

The sheer fact that we need to put a player on LTIR to fit in 3 ELC contracts is depressing, with our current team

K this makes me confused. Demote the three non waiver Utica bodies. So who's left as 13thf 7thd? Vey, ltir Higgins, corrado? What about Hutton recall? Are we over the roster limit? Someone smarter than me explain?
