Then why make the trade? That's a huge trade to make, giving up on Barkov when he 19, changing the direction of the team you are trying to build because we have trouble scoring this season. I don't care about Kessel being signed for 7 years, I'm concerned about the next 3 years with Kessel, because that's how long we will have before he starts to decline.

Trouble scoring goals "this" season? We have had trouble scoring goals pretty much EVERY season. And Kessel just turned 27 three months ago, what is to say that he will start to decline in three years. That is such a ridiculous comment.

Once he hits 30, the decline could come at any moment. And even with Kessel, we are only going to go so high in this league. And we don't have any reinforcements on the way to help raise us to a higher level because we would have had to trade them for Kessel.

The decline could come any moment after 30? Cmon man...there are a lot of players that are major contributors well past the elderly age of 30. Considering his age, skill set, injury history, etc., I would not be surprised if he was a PPG payer for at least another 5 seasons.

And how do you know how high we would go with him? With the potential top line center prospect Barkov, with his 5 points, we are fighting for the WC, but with a premier scoring RW, and his 35 points, we'd be sitting pretty in a playoff spot IMO. Kessel for Bakov+ makes this team considerably better now, and in the future, until Barkov proves otherwise, because giving up another prospect, and a pick (2016 preferably) is not that much, considering the return. Not only that, you still have the youth on defense, up front as well, and cap space for a team that all of a sudden looks pretty tempting to UFAs.

My apologies for leaving out Trocheck from that post. Was mostly highlighting our depth meaning guys that are still in the pipeline. Sure you could have a center core of Bjugstad, Trocheck, Bolland, and MacKenzie but it definitely leaves something to be desired.

A "potential" top line center is not the same thing as a top line winger, who is just entering his prime, scores 35+ goals a game, is a PPG player, and one of the premier top line talents in this league. You trade potential for a sure thing 99% of the time, and Barkov is not that 1% exception. Even without Barkov, you still have depth down the middle, but now you have someone that is feared every time he is on the ice, which is something no Panther does right now. I like Barkov a lot, but this truly is a no brainer.

No you don't. If this were the case, prospects and early draft picks would always be on the move. Tallon would have traded the 1st overall to another team, and the Panthers wouldn't have Ekblad. It's kinda pointless to argue at this point because there are clearly two camps, and neither one has budged an inch lol.

A bit off-topic, but how awesome is it that we're actually discussing a trade that could get this team over the hump rather than who the team will take when they pick top five in the coming draft?

Completely different. It has nothing do with slumping.

Yes it does, because there wasn't a whisper of trading Barkov last year. There was a group who wanted to trade both Bjugstad and Barkov when they were slumping earlier this year. If he was playing the way he did last year we wouldn't dream of it.

Definitely agree with this. When people were forming trade proposals last season with Barkov included in them, we said Barkov was off limits. But now all of a sudden he isn't producing offensively and we're ok with trading him for Kessel? But apparently it's not about slumping? Then why were we saying Barkov wasn't available last season? Are the flashes of brilliance from last season wearing off because it was his 1st season? Doesn't make any sense.
