The guy has scored two goals in 30 playoff games and gets paid 7.8 million... let that sink in for a while.

One of the most anti-clutch players out there.

To be fair it was Columbus who gave him that money, so it wasn't really known at the time how anti clutch he was in the playoffs, as he had only played 4 playoff games at that point.

With the Boyle news

Boyle for 2 yrs x 5m
Mitchell for 2 yrs x 3m
Draft Ekblad

Campbell-Gudbransson
Boyle-Kulikov
Ekblad-Mitchell
Olson

I think trading Kulikov is a good idea though. Especially if he can be used to landed Speeza, Thornton, Marleau, Malkin etc a big name. Obvisouly not him alone for that kind of return!
Sooo, Boyle in, Kulikov out. Yeah, that's not going to work.

Yes please. (for a reasonable price though, we're not going to give up Barky if thats what you want.)

The Sharks GM made it clear that changes will be happening, JT and Patty love each other and both have NTC in their contracts. FLA has the cap space to take em both, so it seems possible haha. The Sharks would probably be after the 1st overall + a top 4 LHD (prospect or current player). What do you think though? I don't know much about FLA players to be honest.

For a package like that, you'll never get the return you think you deserve for players that are that talented. I don't know what they'd worth, but it's probably less than you think.

I think there will be at least a handful of teams looking to bring in Boyle. Should be interesting to see what happens.

Havlat probably won't garner much interest, so he could be a possibility. At this point, why wouldn't we just bring back Mueller instead?

Do not feel Boyle is an answer to "D" issues...he is on the downside of his career. Felt we should not have let Mueller go when we did...could be a place for him next year...has looked could on the U.S. team at the Worlds

We really need to get our team defense to be average. Last season it was awful. With Roberto in net and an average team D we will take a huge step forward. The easiest and most likely way for us to accomplish that is through coaching. Almost all the teams in the playoffs (I know they have more talent) buy into an overall team defensive concept for 60 minutes. That's coaching.

PK and PP needs to improve. The combined % need to be over 100 or we wont make the playoffs, imo. No reason we can't be decent in both. Coaching again, especially PK.

Personnel wise we need a coach who provides defensive structure (not run and gun), knows how to get players to buy in, and knows how to develop young guys.

Biggest acquisition this season by far is the Coach.

With that said, we need a legit top line winger. Gaborik could come here if we overpay 7x7 or 7.5x7 or 8 x 6. I'd be for it, 100%. Neal is another possibility. I think we'll see some pretty big offseason trades. More puck possession will equal less shots against and less scoring chances.

We need a legit top pairing d-man and second pairing guy. Not sure if that top pairing D is out there. I would love to have Anton Stralman. He'd be a nice fit with Campbell or Kulikov.

That trade is a bit tempting as we desperately need a guy like Garrison at the point at the blueline, but he wants to stay home in Vancouver and be a part of their rebuild/restructure. Can't see it happening.

That's why we need Ekblad. Nothing to boost our defense even more like adding a rookie :sarcasm:

I was watching Ducks/Kings series and commentators kept mentioning how popular ice hockey is in Southern California, they mentioned number of registered players, cannot remember what it was but surprisingly high.
One thing which made hockey popular there was Gretzky acquisition. Panthers should do something similar, now that it clear that casinos will not help SSE (so Viola has to count on hockey team making more revenues). They should get one of game's superstars, regardless of cost, get Sidney Crosby. Not sure if Pittsburgh would trade him away, but I'd say this is to time to do it, clearly they are in middle of reconstruction.
Getting one of these superstars here will immediately sell more tickets, create momentum for team and not to mention, it will strengthen team.
Luongo trade was already step into that direction and for this kind of superstar trade i would keep all Panthers players available except Luongo.

There's just no way the Penguins are trading Crosby. Malkin, maybe? But like others have said, the price would likely be too steep for it to make sense for us. I think if all pans out and our team ends up a being a perennial contender, that will be enough to spark popularity/interest in hockey down here.
