I disagree. An OA player traded in the off season should bring a better return as teams get them for the full season. It's not as though Tucker has anything to prove in the first half that will up his value.
And, the longer you hold onto an OA, the better chance the price goes down or you have to hang onto them, as prospective trade partners start drying up.

There are exceptions of course. But without looking, Logan Morrison or Arbor Xhekaj return at the deadline are exceptions that won’t happen every year.

‘Should’ but it doesn’t seem to work that way. Morrison & Hayes are the most recent OAs that returned max value at the deadline.
I think much better value can be had off-season for all OAs that would not be among top 3-4 targets at the deadline though.

Every year there are 2-3 OAs whose value is highest at the deadline. I think 2018-19 season OAs were in particularly high demand.

I would say that Tucker Robertson will be among the 3-4 targets at the deadline if he returns for his overage season. He is a great two way forward who had 90 points this season and has scored 40 goals in a season. He lead the league in face off wins this year. He also won an OHL championship and played in the Memorial Cup. As for whether he is traded early in the season or at the deadline the Petes will get more than a couple of draft picks for him which are what teams usually get early in the season for overage players. These players are usually teams excess overages and the cost is usually low for them. In Tucker’s case if the Petes were not going into a rebuild season he definitely be one of their overagers this coming season. He is more valuable than what a team’s excess overage would be. I expect the Petes could get a good 17 or 18 year old player plus a 2nd, 3rd and either a 4th or 5th round draft picks for him.

I suppose it depends on your definition of good. Is that a player that will be a solid 3rd line player in his age 19 season, Podolioukh for example?
I don’t recall a single OA returning a 17-18 yr old that is certain to be NHL drafted plus 2, 3, 4 picks. That kind of return would be for two OAs or an OA and a 2004 born.

I think Guelph will probably go with Bowman, Romeo and Leaver. A NHL team would be foolish not to take a flyer on Bowman in this draft or at least sign him to a FA contract.

Starting this thread now as there has been some chatter about potential trades already, and much of that movement is related to the OA situation for each team. To start with I have included every 2003 born that was on a roster at the trade deadline. I have automatically de-activated any player who is either an IMPORT / or NHL drafted or with an NHL contract as it is most likely that they are not returning. This will be a crowd sourced thread, so please chime in through the comments when you hear FIRM CONFIRMATION that a player is or is not coming back.

I will update this first post as new information is posted below.

The Petes overage players likely will be Connor Lockhart, Sam Mayer and either Jax Dubois or Cam Gauvreau.

Barrie will have another good crop of OA players to choose from this year. Frasca, Punnett, Hache, Chisholm and Savard have all been FA invites to NHL Development Camps. Cholach ( Vegas) remains unsigned and is also eligible. If all return they will have a few players that will have to find new homes.

Would be nice but I don't think it's allowed. Soo Traded him on Jan 3, I don't think they are allowed to bring him back within something like 18 months.

How long until Hounds bring back Savard? Lol ( I'm jk BTW )
There may be a chance that he wants to come home to Peterborough to play his overage year in his hometown. The Petes would have to make a few trades to acquire some draft picks and trade a couple of overagers to make it happen.

The only way a player can return to a prior team inside the 13 months is via waivers.

This is a ridiculous list of OA's. Between Barrie and the Petes they have quite the list.

Owen Sound isn't trading Sam Sedley and Teddy Sawyer is going to school and won't be returning to the OHL. Owen Sound has three 03 forwards that will need to be trimmed down at some point though.
