I wouldn’t trade Virtanen for Lundkvist straight up at this point.
You can tell this was written by a Rangers fan as it’s heavily slanted in their favour and addresses none of Vancouvers needs.

Lol. All these comments are hilarious.

Everyone talking down Lundkvist when he is smashing all kinds of records at the age of 19.

Lundkvist has become a top RHD prospect due to the strides taken this season. Andersson value dropped massively.

Virtanen is a decent middle 6 player but nothing special. Juolevi is meh, hasnt come close to potential and the VAN first is tied up conditionally.

Lundkvist is the best part of this trade and has quietly become a beast of prospect.

VAN receives:
Nils Lundkvist
Lias Andersson

NYR receives:
Jake Virtanen
Olli Juolevi
2020 first-round pick (or 2021 if the Canucks make the playoffs this season and their 2020 pick goes to Tampa)

Lias gets his fresh start with Elias in Vancouver, Lundkvist (who I believe it the most valuable piece in this trade) hits the Vancouver top-4 in a season or two.

Virtanen replaces Fast/Strome in the Rangers top-9.
Juolevi probably won't amount to anything but a new organization couldn't hurt at this point.
Ridiculously bad for the Canucks. How did you think this was a fair trade.

Andersson is slightly more valuable than Juolevi if at all.

Virtanen is more valuable than Lundqvist.

Then we give up a first?

Jesus christ.

How?

A middle 6 winger who averages at 0.36 points is better than a record breaking 19 year RHD with a high ceiling?

Sure

....but let me guess the responses?..."Virtanen is on pace for 40 plus points this year"

Andersson > Juolevi and Lundkvist > Virtanen in terms of value.

The 1st was to make up the difference, otherwise the Rangers would never even consider it obviously.

Neither has done anything in the NHL. If you're comparing career AHL numbers though, Lias Andersson = 0.52ppg < Olli Joulevi = 0.65ppg (as a defenseman). As for "Lundkvist > Virtanen", if Jake Virtanen was on the Rangers right now, he'd be 4th on the team in goals; I'd value that more than a prospect doing well in a lesser league & playing on a larger ice surface, as it's not a guarantee that Lundkvist's game translates to the NHL.

Canucks fans would probably change their tune if Virtanen isn't having the season he is now.

kudos to OP for recognizing there is something to be done w/these 2 teams.

That said, not keen on moving cost controlled Nils in this equation.

We can certainly send Lias to VAN at a reasonable price w/conditional picks involved.

A bigger deal than that requires more study of possible pieces.

Virtanen has been playing as a top 6 power forward. He has also been promoted to play on the top line and making the line more effective. It shows you haven’t watched him this season... Canucks would be crazy to move Virtanen as we are 1st in our division, going after a playoff spot, Virtanen helps us do this. I get Lundkvist potential but that’s all it is at this point, he’s a smaller and light D man, it’s going to be a challenge for him to adjust his game to the smaller NHL rink, not impossible. Juolevi has also made improvements this year to his game and looking like a potential top 4 D who could be ready next year, more of what we need younger players ready to make an impact to the team.

Kudos the OP??? This was a terrible proposal, for both teams. We likely won't be able to afford Virtanen either. Yeah it makes a whole lot of sense to lose all of Kreider, Fast and Strome (all who are much better) just to keep Virtanen with our already limited cap space???

Also completely ignoring VAN's perspective of the trade; trading a key player for them and a 1st in the same trade is such an idiotic backwards counterproductive idea it's not even funny.

As a Rangers fan I say hell yes.
Fits both teams needs well

You can't move Nil's until you figure out what we are doing with ADA.
Nil's will be the cost effective controlled 3RHD for the next several years.
If we move ADA to the left side or move him in trade, we are going to need Nil's

I don’t think so. A first and Juolevi plus even last years Virtanen is way too high a price for the Rangers fifth ranked prospect who may or may not pan out down the road but won’t help the team this year. A big pass from Vancouver.

If our glut of RHD is really truly a problem I would sooner trade Trouba than NL.

Consider that the "Kudos" comment is from the Worlds leading State Sponsor of terrible proposals.

No thanks, Lias who kows where he's at especially if he's having some mental block problems that some have reported (hopefully not, I really hope the kid succeeds) and he's not even playing and not even with the organization. Right now he's the lowest price of the 5 pieces.

Apprciate the attempt but it just doesn't make sense to me, team is trying to get to the playoffs and need roster players so dumping Virtanen just wouldn't make sense.

To wrap it up we are not trading Lundqvist. Keane, Barron, Robertson, Hajak to name a few are open for discussion.
To wrap it up Vancouver is not trading their first (let alone Virtanen) for Lundkvist. If they were to trade their first it would be for an impact player like J.T. Miller but on defense. Virtanen and Juolevi would not be included.

So he's an awesome prospect like Vitali Kravtsov? :sarcasm:

Not to belittle him but there's always an x-factor when you first bring a talented European to North American hockey, especially if they're on the smaller size. And it's not like he's the best player in the SHL like Elias Pettersson was.

Probably just not a good fit for either team, worse for Vancouver though because you lose the player now and the future to get a future back. The critical point though is while it's still up in the air while Vancouver is looking good to make the playoffs now they're going to be very hard pressed to repeat next year (cap crunch, health, and competition) so that 1st will probably be in the lottery.
