Henrik Lundqvist was a 7th rounder. It happens, but RARELY. In 50 years of the draft, I think the Rangers have only gotten a real player like 4 times in round 7 (Lundqvist, Todd Marchment, Mike Mottau, and I think there's one or two more). So even then, hitting on a player who will have a solid career is something like 1/25 odds.

Since we reorganized our scouting department in 2011 4 of 13 players we drafted in the 7th round made it to the NHL. With 2 more on the way that looks promising. (Otto Somppi and Samuel Walker.) Our scouting department is ridiculous.

I haven’t really been able to follow these guys this year cause I work till midnight but what kind of player is Goodrow?

IMO, he's a bigger, nastier, more versatile Jesper Fast who can also win faceoffs

I think this is a good no risk move by the Rangers.....I think Goodrow is a solid 3rd line player. Would love to have him on the Islanders....

Definitely part of it. Effective player at his job but not going to overpay too much for that. Not unless you got other pieces already in place.
