Because i dont think a winger like Nylander is worth more than 6 mil especially if you want to be able to actually get a good Dman AND have everyone under the cap.
60 points player get 6 million.

Add in his age and potential he’s easily worth 6.5.

Anything under 7 long term and leafs are happy.

Any number over 7 and Willy’s camp won.

This trade makes no sense for the Flames. We cant lose our best defensemen and the Leafs arent gonna trade Nylander for a 35 year old. And the second deal is bad value for the Flames Brodie alone is a #2 defensemen and more valuble than Nylander.
Lol, Brodie is far from a #2 don't kid yourself. He's not worth anything close to Nylander, Bennett's only value is from being picked high. The Flames run away laughing if they were offered that.

Because u also get a forward back and dont leave a hole in ur forward corps. For example if u trade Nylander 1 for 1 u get a hole in ur forward corps but with Reinhart u add a good defensive forward and a good right handed offensive dman. Even though its not ideal its still a big upgrade for just Nylander
Reinhart is like Bennett. If he wasn't a top pick he wouldn't have that much value. Ristolainen makes the Leafs - worse. Jake Gardiner and Ristolainen on one pair is asking for a disaster to happen.

Since Carolina had their hot start, of 4 wins, 1 OT loss, they've gone 2 wins, 6 losses and 1 OT loss. They are behind 3-1 to St. Louis of all teams tonight, on the verge of 2 w, 7 L and 1 OTL in the last ten. Over that last ten games, they've scored 18 goals total, with only 7 during the last five games. You don't win in the NHL with that kind of offense.

Looks like they might need to go ALL-IN on some offense after all.

Edit.. they lost 4-1 to St. Louis tonight...

So a 60 PT player that wears a Leaf uniform is some kind of superhero, and a 50 PT player for Buffalo is a reclamation project lol. Those 10 points are going to cost double Reinharts pay to sign also.

I wonder how desperate a team would have to be to over pay for Nylander? If Dubas keeps saying no to all trades at what point does a struggling team take a risk.

Chris Johnston from Sportsnet was on post game on the FAN 590 and said there is a renewed sense of optimism that the Leafs and Nylanders are getting closer to a deal.

Re-signing him long term is always going to be option number 1.

Here's hoping! :)

Best option for everyone involved.

Thats fair if you dont like the players but i stand by the value.

#3-6 RHD Guddy

Top 4 young Dmen w. Potential to be top Pairing - Juolevi

Young cheap Winger w physicality and speed - Virtanen
If Vancouver wants Nylander then it’s Petterson or Boeser.

The Leafs can and will hold unto him as long as takes for him to go down to roughly 6 million at the most per year. It can take 2 months or 2 years but that's how it's going to go down..

It doesn't really work that way. Nobody sits for two years not only because the player loses money but also because the team loses value at the same time. If a player really would sit (read = play elsewhere) for two years it would take away two RFA years from a long term contract and add two UFA years into it... thus making it more expensive for the team.

Maybe not, but the point is sound. The Leafs at this point have no reason to do anything. It is up to other teams to call the Leafs and try to acquire him. It is up to Nylander to push the negotiation if he wants to play for the Leafs this year. We are already at the Truba signing date. Next is the Turris day and finally the dreaded Pecca date. With Pecca he didn't lose much value after waiting a year. Pyatt didn't work out but he was 19 or 20 at the time and an 8th overall pick and Connolly had some good years with Buffalo and was around 20 at the time and a 5th overall pick.
