Wondering if anyone can answer this...

If the leafs sign him November 30, let's say for argument sake 7 years x $7mil per AAV, frontload the first year @ $11m - but $10m is signing bonus and $1m is salary - does that whole number get pro-rated for the games missed, or only the salary portion and he keeps the whole signing bonus?

Ex. misses 26 games (32% of season) is it $11m less 32% = $7.48m, or is it $10m bonus + ($1m less 32% -> $680k) = 10.68m?

Basically does he get the full signing bonus for year 1 if they structure it for max bonuses?

They can structure it as they prefer as long as they follow CBA rules. If the 7 year deal has $7M AAV, the largest salaried year can not be more than double the smallest salaried year. There is also year to year max fluctuations as well and don't recall what that is.

So if his salary is 11M this year, they can give him $10M on Nov 30th and the remaining $1M is spread out over the remaining games. But they need to respect the year to year max fluctuation and also bring the 7 year average to $7M/season.

I know there's not much news on the trade front but let's please get back on topic and off the media markets line of discussion. That's a discussion outside the purview of the Trade board.

Only the salary portion gets pro-rated. All signing bonuses are paid in full.

If you're trying to calculate Nylander's cap hit keep in mind that likewise only year 1 salary is pro-rated and signing bonuses count in full. So in the event Nylander signed a 7x7 contract on nov 30th structured like you suggest then the cap hits would be:

years 2-6: ($1m * 127/186 + $48m) / 7 = $6.95m
year 1 = $6.95m * 186/127 = $10.19m

This is not the worst trade proposal I've ever seen. Very close and fair for both teams. Nice work.
It's only getting offered because RR and Reinhart are off to slow starts. As soon as either, or both, get going, this proposal will be withdrawn, posthaste.

Just make a trade already.

Buffalo offers Reinhart and Ristolainen for Nylander and Dermott.

Dubas would be GM of the century if he pulled that one off. Buffalo's not giving up Risto and Reinhart in a Nylander trade. Toronto would get 2 great assets for a guy thats not playing for them and Buffalo gets to gamble by giving a kid a huge contract. Buffalo + Nylander but - Risto and Reinhart is not a better team.

Now I could see a Reinhart + for Nylander trade. Something like Reinhart, Moulson, SJ 1st or something in that relm. So basically Reinhart and picks.

Risto wouldnt be on either one of our powerplay units, what's the point of having him on the team?

Reinhart is a second line passenger and Risto a #3 D at best
