no bonuses, and offer a fair 6.5, perfectly reasonable, would have brought his cap down to a nice 6.1 or so also. 1 mill in cap is a big deal. What would you have done Mikeyg

6.9 AAV is NOT GOOD guys, it really really really isnt.
Makes Draisaitl's deal look good by comparison. Marner will probably be 9m x 6 years now and we'll have to trade Kapanen and not sign Gardiner. Next year will be rough on defence so we might as well go for it this year.
Half this site has convinced themselves that Matthews is signing an OS from Arizona. Never let reality get in the way of a good revenge fantasy.
Gardiner unfortunate cap casualty. Leafs run with Rielly, Dermott, Rosen on left side next year. You forgot gardiner but yeah keep pumping that narrative.
Marner is so getting 10
Considering the same hometown kid wants a 4 year deal to walk to ufa right now, id say yes, yes he would.Marner has to accept the offer sheet first. Do you really see the home town kid doing That?
I'd trade Brown in a heartbeat to keep Nylander
I'd set up every contract to make it as tradeable as possible, that's just smart business
Less than Pastrnak when one factors in cap inflation. Fair deal, though it’s annoying it was only reached after a hold out.
Neither side truly won a thing, however, mutually this is a good outcome.
This is where I stumble. Not worth losing a year for this deal, but should have been able to get 6x7 in summer without troubleWhat would you have done Mikeyg
Im just going to keep posting this until people understand how dire it was to win this one:
as of today, we have 23.2 million to sign a backup goalie, gardiner, hainsey, oz, marincin, ennis, AJ, KK, Marner, Lindholm, matthews and leivo.
Willie took the Leafs to the woodshed. He is not worth that money. In reality I see it that we added a $6.5M player who we are paying $7M.
He gets a big bonus in year 2 which will make him attractive to trade.
hahahahahaha oh boy this guy is hilarious. Hes our 2nd best d man, and an excellent transition player. But no, you're right, the puck will just magically fly towards our skillful forwards...Gardiner is a luxury an afterthought, and if he put up the same performance he did in Game 7 last year is an additon by subtraction.
