6.9 AAV is NOT GOOD guys, it really really really isnt.

If it's a problem for you guys cap wise moving forward, he'll be traded for a great return.

Be happy you're not a Habs fan right now losing skilled players in favor of "character" and enjoy the many cup runs you're about to embark on.

Makes Draisaitl's deal look good by comparison. Marner will probably be 9m x 6 years now and we'll have to trade Kapanen and not sign Gardiner. Next year will be rough on defence so we might as well go for it this year.

Matthews might be a problem, but Marner won't. He'll load up on GTA incentives if with the Leafs. Unless the Canadiens offersheet him at some stupid amount, like 11 million and he learns French and gets endorsements there.

Matthews could probably clean up in several US cities whereas Marner would just be another Canadian hockey star.

It's an overpayment for what he's accomplished and deserves but 7m cap hit is not terrible, it's workable. Hard to fault Dubas here when an overpayment took Nylander until the last minute to sign, guess those initial 8.5 asks were 100% accurate. It's very hard to negotiate under those circumstances and come out with something acceptable. It's really a win for both sides but Nylander may have overplayed his hand with management, he will undoubtedly be the first one tossed overboard if a good trade comes along.

Marner is so getting 10

I doubt it, but even if he did it can still work. Brown, ennis, gardiner gone that’s what $8m~, cap will go up. Dermott is ready for gardeners role. Rosen and Borgman ready for stop gap bottom pair and sandin not too far away. Hainsey gone but will probably need his money for a replacement for him.

Good lord, sometimes it just takes an emotional moment to really shine a light on just how stupid and shortsighted some people can be.

Today the second overall Leafs and current Cup favorites added a 22 year old first line forward to their team for a CAP hit of under 7mill for 6 years. An asset that can also be moved at any time if needed for roster adjustments. This is a great time to be a Leaf fan and anyone who doesnt believe this has been hurt so bad for long cheering for this team that they are unable to not be pessimistic.

I'd trade Brown in a heartbeat to keep Nylander

I'd set up every contract to make it as tradeable as possible, that's just smart business

Dubas is a forward thinking GM let's hope in which case he knows not to fall in love and overpay guys like Brown the way Lou would have. These sort of players are replacable with ELCs and league minimums if it means keeping all the forwards (or trading one of the forwards for an equally good dman).

Plus if there isn't some young prospect to step in to replace the likes of Brown or Hainsey in the near future on an ELC then the drafting and development has completely failed.

Im just going to keep posting this until people understand how dire it was to win this one:

as of today, we have 23.2 million to sign a backup goalie, gardiner, hainsey, oz, marincin, ennis, AJ, KK, Marner, Lindholm, matthews and leivo.

Signing Willie put an end to Jake in Toronto, I don't know the numbers you are putting up are legit and even if they are, lots of things can change between now and the summer

Willie took the Leafs to the woodshed. He is not worth that money. In reality I see it that we added a $6.5M player who we are paying $7M.

He gets a big bonus in year 2 which will make him attractive to trade.

Ok sure, I don’t think we will trade him though unless we get a deal too hard to refuse

Gardiner is a luxury an afterthought, and if he put up the same performance he did in Game 7 last year is an additon by subtraction.
hahahahahaha oh boy this guy is hilarious. Hes our 2nd best d man, and an excellent transition player. But no, you're right, the puck will just magically fly towards our skillful forwards...

So if they gave him a cap hit of 6.6 they'd have 23.5 million?
