Barkov’s contract is irrelevant. Signed years ago in a different climate, when he was coming off of injury plagued ELC years and wasn’t yet the 90+ point player he is now. Florida got lucky on that deal and if it were up tomorrow we all know he’d be a $10M player if not more. Teams can try to use contracts like that as comparables all they want but nobody is falling for it.
Yeah I know, but it's still pretty funny that the numbers are what they are for the said players now.
Plus Barkov is just a too nice loyal guy for his team who accepted a team friendly contract. Possibly his agent didn't do the greatest job with that but who knows, maybe Barkov just really wanted to be in Florida Panthers and didn't want to risk burning bridges with Florida's management.
