2014 draft was suppose to be garbage, plenty of people were calling Ekblad the next EJ and Day >> Ekblad. Definitely turned out tht way.

Jets fans have seen how we don't need to pick top five in the draft to get one of the top five players.

Trouba and Connor for Patrick does make sense on a certain level because of the uncertainty here regarding Trouba. Duchene for Trouba after picking Patrick makes more sense though.

Chevy may not be a great GM all things considered but he will never get fleeced giving away young talent. Which is what this idea is.

Nik Ehlers 17 year old season: 63 games, 49 goals, 55 assists, 104 points

Nolan Patrick 17 year old season: 72 games, 41 goals, 61 assists, 102 points

Can someone explain to me how Patrick is so much more valuable than Ehlers without using draft position?

Both those player's are more valuable than Ehlers or Trouba

why is that? Ehlers is a proven top 6 winger at 20 years old is on pace for 60+ points. He also had a better 17 year old junior season than Patrick

Ain't that the year he had Drouin feeding him all season? Where as Patrick has done it with a bunch of randoms

Ehlers and Drouin only played together on the PP, Patrick was on a Brandon team that contained Jayce Hawryluk (106 points in 58 games) John Quenneville (73 points in 57 games) and Ivan Provorov (73 points in 63 games)

Brandon last year was an infinitely better team than Halifax in 2013/2014

Nolan Patrick isnt that good, his upside is probably Ryan Johansen. Not saying thats a bad thing but its not good for a #1 pick

Winnipeg can send Myers and Dano and a 2nd rounder in 2017.
Otherwise, more than happy with Scheif Little and Roslo on the way.

QMJHL vs WHL, scoring is harder in the WHL.

As a Jets fan, I'd have a hard time passing on that top 4 potential RHD in Liljegren... Organizationally, that's what the Jets need.

Jets are a good drafting team tho... I mean when you actually break down the drafts since they have been here...

2011- Mark Scheifele 7th
2012 - Jacob Trouba 9th
2013 - Josh Morrissey 13th
2014 - Nik Ehlers 9th
2015 - Kyler Connor 17th and Jack Roslovic 25th
2016 - Patrik Laine 2nd.

Not a bad haul for a team who has had 1 pick in the top 6 really since they relocated and that was Patrick Laine at 2...

Just because a guy is a number one pick it doesn't mean he gains some mystical abilities that make him a better hockey player, you have to actually watch guys and judge their value, and at the end of the day Patrick just isn't a guy you give up Ehlers or Trouba for. He's more of a Sam reinhart than a McDavid

Or and RNH / Sean Courturier

Probably the best drafting team in the league...prospect pool is loaded.
