I always thought that Jensen would fit in the NHL if he was played with offensive players. Put him on the wing, let someone else be the play maker and the puck retriever...let Jensen use his speed down the wing and shot from the slot ...

i guess, if you dont prove anything you dont get that chance.

He could be a smart pickup for a team with a few holes

Nicklas Jensen - Future?

Does Nicklas Jensen still have any chance at a future with the Canucks, or is he pretty much going the way of Jordan Schroeder?

I haven't been following Jensen much, but my gut says that he needs an environment change. Anyone here disagree with this statement? If so, why?

Complete bust.

Makes Kassian look like Guy Carbonneau in terms of effort/defensive play.

Just a lazy player with no motor and not a lot of hockey sense.

Guy was a bad player at the AHL level last year. Isn't even close to being an NHLer.

I dont think of him as a prospect anymore.
He'll need a huge season in utica to get back on the relevant radar.

Pretty much.
Needs to be noticeable in the main camp this yr... needs to take a significant step and have his best season as pro in Utica in order to be re-signed.

Anything less than a 0.6-ish PPG scoring rate in Utica probably won't cut it. 20g-25a would be a successful progression that could earn him a contract...

Most likely scenario at this point... he has an OK season in Utica, puts up just over 0.5 PPG and shows to be an AHL capable player, earns a 1yr 2-way contract, but gets waived at the end of camp in Sept 2016...

Overall i think he's a longshot to become an NHL player... but could continue to be a useful AHL one.
It's probably in his best interests to move to another organization where he would be going in as an AHL player that could progress to be a decent call up, vs with Vancouver where he's looked like a disappointing bust.

What happened with this guy?....actually showed some flashes when he was up here playing under Torts a season ago.....guy has great wheels and an NHL release, but last year a total washout in Utica...what's the problem?....hockey sense?...compete level?...hard to figure what's going on with this guy, but agree he's closer to playing in Europe than on the Canucks.

From all accounts he's lazy and only really tries on offense.

He put up a .5 last season and it was meaningless in terms of development. His main problem? He has no idea how to work with line mates. He was put on the first line in the playoffs to up the ante and scored, but that didn't work out in the end either. He's had ample time to learn and there has been no light in the tunnel. He's not lazy, he simply doesn't get it. He tried real hard to play defensively 2nd half of the season and particularly in the playoffs. He even tried shot blocking. He actually got some PK time. All to no avail.

My bet is no contract offer next season and he's back in Europe. Probably signs the contract before this season ends like Andersson did last season.

Too bad about Andersson because he ended up getting it. Played exceptional D during the playoff run.

I still don't consider Jensen a bust but maybe a team change would do him well. With Tinordi needing to clear waivers this season and Montreal fans not sure he will earn a roster spot on the Habs, how about Jensen for Tinordi? Both players would fill holes on their respective teams. I don't think Jensen has to clear waivers until next season.

I would ****ing love to get tinordi (or gormley, or weal) for jensen.
Any other half decent prospect to get a little excited for.

Unfortunately i have so little faith in benning to get anything decent done at all i just sit ajd wait for the next debacle of a move.

A Jensen for Tinordi type deal would be great but I can't see Montreal going for this. I do like the idea of getting Tinordi however.

If Tinordi is placed on waivers he won't clear so the Habs get nothing but the waiver loss compensation for him. Trouble is Buffalo gets first chance and they would also love him. Canuck fans may be down on Jensen, but he has speed and still potentially can be a good winger with the right team mates.

Is our management smart enough for this.
All signs so far point to no.

(I would even add to jensen, 4th , 5th, grenier, fox, whatever.)

To be honest, I'm not completely down on Jensen. I actually like the kid's size and speed. I think if he can "rebrand" himself as a bottom 6 "defensive specialist" kind of guy that can score the odd goal, he might have a future for this team.

I just think our needs on defense are greater than our needs up front, and so I'm open to the idea of moving Jensen/Shinkaruk if the price is right and if the value is there.

I can't think of a role less likely for Jensen. His biggest weakness is on D and considering his other negatives that makes it an enormous negative.

The problem is where does he fit? Who do they move to keep from having to waive him. Do you move your 2nd pairing D in Weber, or Bart or Corrado?

I still remember the rancor from some posters when I called him a non-prospect last year

At this point he's probably a waste of space in Utica. Use the space for someone useful like Dane Fox or Blomstrad -- someone that at least gives an effort to develop into a professional hockey player.

I still sometimes think back and chuckle at that ludicrous move to call him up for a game in the pressbox last year so Linden could spend the game talking to him. Haha.
