Prospects.

  1. an apparent probability of advancement, success, profit, etc.
  2. the outlook for the future

Im also of the belief Kotkaniemi after 60 GP and 30 pts, youre no longer a "probable" hope to pan out, he's already in the "profit" imo

but that 2nd definition makes me pause a bit lol

With his shot and skill it's hard to think he won't be at least a 50 pt player at some point in the NHL but other times I watch him and just wonder if he'll be effective or not. He's a tough one to have a strong opinion on, clearly if he doesn't make it, it won't be due to a lack of skill, creativity, or confidence. Really hope he trains hard in the summer on getting more explosive, stronger and they let him get some time with Bouchard in Laval.

Kucherov is not the fastest, not the strongest, but is very quick in his game and make good decisions all time. This is what i see from suzuki. Im not saying he will be as good as kucherov. But he has very large skillset

The good thing with Suzuki is that he has the skill level and confidence to be a great player. The problem/concern is can he overcome some shortcomings in the physical tools department of size, speed, skating, strength.

What's so encouraging about Suzuki is with that shot alone he stands the chance to be a solid NHLer but he's also so creative with the puck, so confident that he will try things in a game that most wouldn't even try in practice.

I’m not concerned with his skating or size at all. For me, he just needs to engage more and compete harder out there. If he can, he can be an excellent offensive player.

Yep but Kucherov is an hungry player and a gamer, not sure I saw that drive in Suzuki's game yet...

100% how i feel about him too, his wierd stride and lack of body language and intensity is the reason that makes me feel that way!

hence why in my opinion why he needs to go in Laval, i feel like Bouchard is a hard coach and an honest coach, he won't be afraid to tell him that. Good news, the skills, shot and smartness is there.

Worst case scnenario Suzuki becomes a powerplay specialist who plays the right circle and gives you the option to either snipe it or make an insane deceptive crossice pass for an open net!

lets be honest the Habs could use that.

Going from OHL to NHL would be a huge jump. Some time in the AHL would probably do him some good.

This was almost the post I was just about to come here and make with less detail. I really want to say he's going to be a star for sure but I really can't. The WJCs aren't the be all and end all but they got me a bit worried and apparently lack of urgency's an issue. He does seem to have his head screwed on straight and is willing to do what it takes to reach his ceiling. Lets hope and pray he does. I say there's almost zero chance he'll be a better player than Kotka but I think he may have better raw offensive tools. It's damn close. I don't see enough Suzuki to really say either way.

Holy crap. I jokingly told someone yesterday that he only needed 5 pts today to match his pace from before the trade

What we see on that shot is what top snipers do. They can change the angle of attack, which makes it harder for defenders to block the shot while also creating a bit more opening toward the net if the goalie is not able to spot the change.

This is not stuff that is easy to teach. Suzuki may not be at a Matthews level with this skill, but it does remind me of the shot that a prime Michael Ryder had. The good thing is that Nick's overall game seems way more mature than Ryder's was at the same age.

I’d be shocked if this kid didn’t pan out to be atleast a 2nd line RW. His shot is lethal, his puck skills are very strong and he’s got excellent IQ. The knock as others have said is the apparent lack of intensity.

Regardless, I do see him as a future 30-goal guy. He won’t be ready next season, I suspect he requires 1 maybe 2 years in the AHL before making the jump and there’s nothing wrong with that.

I don't have as big of a problem with his lack of urgency as others, he's cerebral and likes to slow things down, now i don't know how that will mesh with the Habs up tempo play but we'll have to wait and see. What I worry is just usual highly skilled undersized player that lacks explosiveness in a league where speed is king. That said several smallish guys that don't have that extra gear or aren't the greatest skaters will still make it. Just becomes a question of how can he overcome these things and to what degree are they a concern. His skating looks improved for sure, so how much of that is really a problem? He's not that small either. So if he can work on being more explosive, that's likely my main worry. Really can't wait to see him at camp and hopefully Laval next year to get a better read on him.

So, he is not broadcasting his intentions to the opposition, while being extremely productive? That is called f***ing SMART!

He is ultra talented but it will take more for him to become a great NHL player. Does he have it in him? Time will tell.

Too easy for juniors does not mean necessarily a success in the NHL.

The only weakness sounds to me to be his skating. If he's not fast enough, that can look like lack of effort/intensity.

But weren't some questioning Kotkaniemi's skating pre-draft? If so, it was without warrant.
