Maybe Florida relocates to Houston.

Not happening. Florida is locked into a lease deal for a good long time and the owner is investing in the team for the first time in their history. The NHL is committed to the markets they are already in, like we saw with Phoenix last summer.

Speculation: - Chris Johnston: Panthers ownership gives Tallon directive to cut 10 million in salary for next year

Seems that very rich owner only cares about his money, not the franchise.

If the finances won't work at Florida ---> relocate to Quebec or Houston.

Read the thread. That’s one of the most unreliable hockey twitter accounts that exist.

We'll see what happens at the summer. But Trocheck trade already looked like a small step behind.

Don't think Haula will extend etc. He is gonna get greedy with his UFA demands (that's why Carolina let him walk).

We'll see how this escalates.

So you're saying that an incredibly inaccurate Twitter account and the Panthers making a trade that makes sense for the organization with GM Tallon's thoughts being that “Since the All-Star break, our team has really struggled and we wanted to find a way to shake things up and see what would work,” Tallon said on Monday afternoon, an hour after the NHL’s trade deadline for the 2019-20 season had passed. The more we got into discussions over the past 10 days or so, teams starting making offers. Some of them were pretty fair, some better than others. We just decided this was the right path to add more depth throughout the organization, for the big club and the minor-league team, and it was conscious from all of us that this was a fair deal and something we should do not only for the present but for the future” trumps the Panthers signing Bobrovsky to a $70 million deal for 7 years, Quenneville to a $30 million deal for 5 years, Dave Tallon for several more years for an equally expensive deal, spending just under the cap limit, and actually starting to develop prospects? Have fun with that. That Twitter account also made statements like Carolina and Arizona were both going to relocate, so they're already 0/2 on the relocation front.

With regards to why the league will expand more...I have between 750 million and 1 billion reasons why. Houston and Quebec are coming the only question is when.

Houston's only option is Fertitta and he was unwilling to pay anything more than a discounted price for a low-value team like the Senators. He was told he wasn't going to get a franchise, and multiple reliable insiders like Pierre LeBrun have said that they won't be getting a team. Houston is like Kansas City, Hamilton, and so many others where people are going to hold on to them because people thought they were in the running for a few months.

Québec City's only bid was from Québecor with PK Peladeau, and their total value for all of their assets was barely $1.5 billion. If their bid was accepted, they would be the equivalent of Winnipeg where the only way they go above break even is if they have a long playoff run. The league doesn't want that, hence why the league didn't put a team there. They would have to sell off everything in order to just run the team. The NHL would rather put a team in a market with not as much hockey interest but triple the population.

Easy to fix, just send Nashville in the eastern conference

Lots of options to move a CTZ team to the East. Probably some re-jigging of teams in the two Eastern divisions but nothing tragic.

Heck, could even keep a relocated HOU team in the East if they really, really, wanted to.

BUF is in a different division from NYR and NYI though in the same state and IIRC PIT and PHI, TOR and OTW were in separate divisions a few different times.

Houston already balked at the idea of 650m fee why do you think he would agree to a higher fee then quebec. Quebec couldn't even com up with 500m US dollar ya think they'll come up it for a price even higher than that? The NHL is done expanding.

Kinda dumb question, but will the Henderson Arena just be a ice rink that cna seat 6,000 people or is it an arena in a traditional sense (will host concerts and other sporting events)?

Description of "Lifeguard Arena" has be published as: "two ice rinks, a retail store and a restaurant."

There are 2 different rinks being built in Henderson. Lifeguard Arena is in East Henderson and opens this summer. This will be the practice facility for the AHL team. There will be minimal seating and will have 2 sheets of ice for rec leagues/open skate. The 6000 seat arena where the team will play it's games will be multi-use. They've mentioned hosting concerts and high school sports/graduations.

That new proposed arena is going to make traffic in that area even worst. If i remember correctly it's near Green Valley Ranch Casino and those big shopping centers. Lots of houses in the area as well. Good luck to however commutes on that road every day.

Eh, 6,000 people or less and how many weeknight AHL games do they even schedule? Some teams it seems like only 2 or 3 home games on weeknights per month.

Most people will be driving to the game because the only public transportation are the buses. That adds a lot of more cars on the road. I would hope more games would be scheduled on the weekends to not add onto the rush hour traffic. Building the arena closer to the M Resort probably would have been a better location.

AHL prefers to be weekend league, but travel/series may push for week night games. Many arenas are in urban areas and have rush hour traffic to contend with.

I'm curious as to why you think that.

Probably because their relationship ended on a very bad note a few years ago: St. Louis Blues: Chicago Wolves Demise Will Delight Some Fans. This is just the tip of the iceburg, many things went down behind the scenes and the scope of the disagreement was a lot larger than what was released.

But neither will have a choice if St. Louis can't find another AHL team to buy. Considering there are only 12 independently owned AHL franchises and none of them are really interested in selling as we saw with Vegas's hurried window shopping, they might be forced into an unhappy relationship.

Doesn't seem like the Wolves play well with others, at all.

And, everything is for sale, it's just a matter of price.

Look up the history of the Chicago Wolves. Their owners existed and thrived for a very long out of spite towards Blackhawks owner Bill Wirtz. They can’t be forced to sell and they’ve been very blatant and public about not selling and not having an interest in selling.
