It has more to due with just filling a need at the time. There will be a lot of PTO's this year just to fill training camps that are short on players attending the World Cup.

Imoo allowed 4 goals on 12 shots in his short stint in the SPHL last season. He found more success in the FHL where he stopped 74 on the 79 pucks directed at him. No doubt that Jonathan Quick is already feeling the heat!

It's amazing how this guy keeps getting "last chances".
Also, if it wasn't for Bob Murray, Bourque's NHL career would have likely been over almost two years ago when Montreal waived him and sent him to St. John's.
However, Bob Murray pulled the trigger on a deal which ended having notable repercussions for four different teams.

Obviously the Bourque experiment failed in Anaheim! It's unclear as to whether The Wiz was a cap dump or not. Anaheim needed depth at defense but Wisniewski only played 13 games and he didn't even dress for a single playoff game.

Seems like neither teams really wanted those players. After acquiring Lack, there wasn't any room for Khudobin in Carolina but it's not like there was more room for him in Anaheim. Also, if Carolina really wanted/needed Wisniewski, they would have given him a real opportunity (not just one shift)
The Aftermath
Montreal : Saved themselves a buyout
Carolina : Stuck with Wisniewski's buyout
Columbus : Got rid of Wisniewki's contract, acquired William Karlsson and 2nd pick but were forced to pay/play Bourque for a little over a season
Anaheim : The failed experiment cost Anaheim a pick and a prospect. As a result of this trade, they were also stuck with a third string goaltender who get paid 2.5 millions to play most of the season in the AHL.
He only got one shift because he blew his ACL, he probably would have anchored our second pairing otherwise.

Agreed, he Canes can't be faulted on this one. As for Bourque I was pissed the day the Habs traded Cammy for him ugh what a bad move.

The Ducks planned to use Wiz as Fowler's partner, but also acquired Despres at the same time. They gave them both a shot in that role, and the latter just proved to be the perfect fit we were looking for. In retrospect it obviously would have been nice to have saved the pick and prospect, but I don't think anyone could have predicted how well Despres would fit alongside Fowler.

I believe Jon Jutzi is also signed to an AHL deal with the Marlies. He attended their Development Camp in the summer as well, and from what I recall reading around that time, he was mentioned as being signed to an AHL deal. Though that could have also been intercommunicated.
I'm so torn because the Marlies are usually pretty good at announcing AHL deals.
