And if you think about it, he did go basement shopping at the deadline too. It just happened that Mojo played very well in the playoffs. He was an injury risk so most didn’t want to waste assets on it.@OV
When did Mojo say that he didnt want to stay? All that I read was that he liked here and wanted to work something out.
My point of view is that it is very arrogant from Sweeney to think everything will be fine with internal competition. There is a glaring hole in Krejci's right side and even Jake on the other one is to streaky. If it doesnt work then you have to pay deep prices at the trade deadline again? To not even speak with Mojo who played great here is a big minus for me.
I look forward to everyone's "where were you July 4th 2013" stories today
Sweeney isn’t going to tell anyone what he’s doing. People need to understand that GMs are constantly playing poker, so to speak. For all we know he has something brewing. There are plenty of FA left. He has plenty to do in that he had to take care of his house before shopping. I don’t see the arrogance in his statement at all. This team just made it to one game of the Stanley Cup, how much can he change? I’m sure he saw Chiarellis mistakes in falling in love with players. If anything, he has shown that he is growing as a GM. Let’s give the guy some credit instead of this “GM of the year” joke.@OV

I like his thought process. Maybe a guy steps up in preseason/camp and you don't have to waste an asset at all. At worse we go shopping at the deadline or before the deadline to fill that hole, just like this season.@OV

I truthfully haven't seen Seny play enough, but if he is as fast as people are saying then maybe they believe he can use that speed in a 3rd line role. We also have Kuhlman who I think is probably the guy to start on the 3rd or 2nd line as we stand right now. Or potentially they throw Heinen up to the 1st line to start the year and go with young wingers for Coyle.Internal competition for a top six RW only exists if you believe the prospect pool contains multiple top six options; right now it'll be tough to find one. Oh, and another 3rd line RW as well. Someone must believe in some massive steps forward and hidden breakouts.

If there was a team to offer sheet, it would be the Leafs right now. Could they fit Marner in at 10.25M? Even after trading Nylander they wouldn’t have room.
yep. i'd low-key wanted Eriksson for years. Wasn't thrilled with it, but didn't out and out hate it at the time. Was definitely mad that they didn't get any picks out of it, same as the Thornton trade. 3 nickels for a quarter is a bad deal. 3 nickels AND a scratch off for a quarter is probably still going to be a bad deal, but at least has potential to be greatIn car with family going to a parade. Remember checking my phone and seeing it. Actually didn't think it was too bad at the time.

Horton is 5.3m according to capfriendly.
They also have as many as 6 players on the roster they can send down, freeing up as much as another ~5 mill.
So, they are fine.
Damn. It probably would be better to go after Laine or Conner.Horton is 5.3m according to capfriendly.

I was just going to say I'd like to screw the leafs by offer sheeting Marner at 12 or 13M, but when they don't sign it we'll be the ones getting screwed.@LouJersey with them. Mwahahahaha.
@Mainehockey33 maybe not us but would love to see leafs best player get a huge offersheet
Maybe but playing with 18 players would be a bold move
