SHL 2015-2016 REGULAR SEASON FINISHED

Not long after the All-Star Break, the San Antonio Outlaws' injury trouble continued with Stephen Weiss, Tuukka Rask, Radek Faksa, and Jan Mursak all set to lose serious time.

To combat these injuries, the team made some trades.

The team sent a 2019 2nd Round Pick and a 2020 2nd Round Pick to Albuquerque for Ryan Jones, Jarret Stoll, and Taylor Pyatt

The team was also lucky enough to have back-up goaltender Corey Crawford set up for a large portion of the season and play admirably.

By the time the season ended and it was time for playoffs, all but Jan Mursak had returned from injury, and the team finished first in the NHL with a record of 53-18-9-2 for 117 points.

SHL PLAYOFFS FIRST ROUND RESULTS:

The San Antonio Outlaws and Baltimore Eagles needed 7 games to finish their first round matchup, but the Outlaws came out on top to win the series 4-3.

Game 7 was the only game won by more than 2 goals as Radek Faksa scored a hat trick while Tuukka Rask had a shut-out to win the game 3-0.

SHL PLAYOFFS SECOND ROUND RESULTS:

Another thrilling 7 game series for the San Antonio Outlaws, as they knocked out the Calgary Vipers for the 3rd time in 4 years to put the team into the Western Conference Finals.

The team was helped by another huge offensive performance as Simon Gagne knocked a hat-trick to help the team win 5-2.

SHL STANLEY CUP FINALS SET TO BEGIN.

The San Antonio Outlaws have won their 3rd straight 7 game series this year en route to their 3rd straight Stanley Cup Finals visit. The team won game 7 against the Calgary Vipers 1-0 in Overtime as goaltender Tuukka Rask gained the first star of the night.

Here are the results of the Conference Finals:

WEST:
1. San Antonio Outlaws vs. 3. Winnipeg Zephyrs: San Antonio wins 4-3

EAST:
2. Atlanta Aces vs. 6 Hamilton Warriors: Hamilton wins 4-2

Now, will San Antonio have their heart broken again, or will they regain the championship they won in the 2013-2014 season?

INJURY TROUBLE DOESN'T STOP THE OUTLAWS

Despite losing goaltender Tuukka Rask to a pulled groin in game 4 and Simon Gagne to a broken wrist in game 6, the San Antonio Outlaws were able to push the SHL Stanley Cup Finals to a 7th game.

Many attribute the success of this team when injured due to GM Gordon Bombay's ability to provide the team with the depth it needs.

Game 7 began without Gagne in the line-up, and with backup goalie Corey Crawford in net for the Outlaws.

The first period was a defensive success for both teams as they went into the 2nd period tied 0-0.

Then, four minutes into the 2nd period, Martin Havlat made the most of his chance to play on the first line as he walked into the slot, received a pass from Steven Stamkos, and sniped the puck top corner.

Halfway through the 2nd period, the Outlaws' offense continued with Radek Faksa making a nice move around two Warriors' defenders before dishing it to TJ Oshie for the goal.

Headed into the 3rd period, the score remained 2-0.

Backup goalie Corey Crawford played spectacularly, and with a minute left in the 3rd period the Outlaws notched their third goal of the game as the Warriors turned the puck over to Erik Karlsson at the blue-line, and he made no mistake firing it bar-down.

The San Antonio Outlaws are the 2015-2016 SHL Stanley Cup Champions

Steven Stamkos was awarded the Conn Smythe for his dominant offensive performance all playoffs-long.

Erik Karlsson was the first star of the game, with Corey Crawford picking up the 2nd, and Martin Havlat the 3rd.

Decided to do a Fantasy Draft with Colorado, however these were my limits:

- Cannot sign anyone over the age of 21 for the first 12 rounds
- After that a maximum of 3 over 21's can be signed
- I've also made sure that the 3 over 21's are less than 35, so they can at least stick around for a couple of seasons.
- After Round 30 an additional 2 over 21's maybe signed, but they must be under 30.​

My idea is obviously I sign a lot of players with stacks of potential and after a few years begin to do well. The first three over 21's are there to be the team leaders, and the additional 2 over 21's are there to be depth players, although they will more than likely be in more important roles, certainly in the first year.

Devils acquire Kaspars Daugavins

The New Jersey Devils (27-17-4) announced today that they have acquired winger Kaspars Daugavins from the Ottawa Senators, in exchange for prospect center Graham Black. "We think this move is going to help add some depth to our forward core", said Devils GM Ben Naim. Daugavins is expected to play in New Jersey's next game against the Pittsburgh Penguins

I shipped out Benn + Byfuglien + 1st + 4* Prospect for Seth Jones + Gabriel Landeskog
Tarasenko + Schultz + 1st + 2 4* Prospects for Alex Ovechkin

I literally haven't had a single forward clear 25 goals or a d-man clear 40 points hence these two moves. Plus I've got so many guys coming up...

Basically I've got 12 forward spots and way more guys than that to fill those 12 spots over the next year or two. Can anyone give me some advice/suggestions on who they'd keep/cut?

C: Scheifele (87, PLY, 4.5*, $6.5M), Reinhart (85, PLY, 4.5*, $5.5M), Girgensons (82, TWF, 4* green, $2.75M), Burmistrov (80, PLY, 4* yellow, $1.875M), Drouin (79, SNP, 4.5*, ELC), Winther (79, TWF, 4*, ELC), Klimchuk (77, SNP, 4*, ELC), Lazar (74, SNP, 4*, ELC)

Season 2012/13 - Colorado Avalanche
I'm actually very impressed with how the season went, beating the owner's expectations and notching up 39 wins in the season. We didn't make the playoff and I wasn't expecting to. Not finishing last was my main objective with such a young team. In the end we finished with a 39-36-7 record, which was good enough for 20th in the league, 11th in the conference and 4th in the division.

Our main struggle in the season was our inability to score, finishing 29th in the league with just 190 goals, and dead last with just a 12.3% powerplay. However with such a young team full of guys in the early stages of their development, this number I shall be expecting to improve over the next few years.

Individually my stand out player for the season was defenceman Oliver Ekman-Larsson, who lead the team with 54 points (7G, 47A) on the season. Veteran Shawn Horcoff showed his leadership by leading the team with 24 goals, and finished 2nd in points with 52 on the season. Below are my top 5 point producers.

In goal Vikor Fasth produced solid number in his 64 games, earning a 30-26-3 record with a 2.35 GAA and a 92.40% save percentage. He was backed up well by Robin Lehner, who in the offseason signed an 8 year deal.

Devils acquire Jarome Iginla, GM Ben Naime: "He makes this team instantly better"

February 24th, 2013 - At a press conference this morning, Devils GM Ben Naime announced that the team had acquired Jarome Iginla from the Calgary Flames. The deal sent defenseman Henrik Tallinder, a 2013 2nd round pick and a 2014 3rd round pick to Calgary. "You have to give to get", said GM Naime, "we wish Henrik Tallinder the best in Calgary and it was a tough decision to let him go, however we felt this was a move that made sense for our team. Jarome fits our system like a glove, he's a power forward with size and strength. He makes this team instantly better".

Jarome Iginla was very happy about the move, his former team is currently sitting at 15th in the Western Conference. "Its great to be a part of this organization, there is a winning atmosphere here and I'm very excited to get started", said Iginla to the press this morning, "obviously, its tough to leave Calgary where I've made so many memories. But this is a new start for me, I think we have a team that has a chance to go deep in the playoffs again."

The 8th place New Jersey Devils will play Detroit in Iginla's Devils debut Sunday at Prudential Center in Newark.​

Devils fall to Red Wings in the shootout, 5-4

Newark, NJ - The New Jersey Devils (30-20-6) were beaten Sunday night at Prudential Center in the shootout, by the Detroit Red Wings. Jarome Iginla's Devils debut was short lived, he blocked a shot late in the 2nd period and missed the rest of the game with what the Devils are calling a "lower body injury". Upon further review, Iginla clearly hurt his foot on the play. Iginla will reportedly miss 1 week of action. "its tough to lose the guy right after we acquire him", said Devils goalie Martin Brodeur, "but that's hockey, thankfully he won't be gone too long".

Devils coach Pete DeBoer was not happy with his team's defensive effort, "we played loose in our own zone tonight", said the coach, "its something we're going to have to work on in practice. You can't win many hockey games playing that way". Ilya Kovalchuk had a big game on offense, getting a hat-trick and bringing is season goal total to 30. "the puck was going in for me" said Ilya after the game, "it would have been better if we won the game, but we'll take the point and try to do better next time".

Patrik Elias had the other Devils goal.

Started with Pittsburgh, turned the salary cap off, although I probably didn't need to do that.
Traded Malkin and picks/prospect for Ovechkin.

Traded more D prospects for Loui Eriksson.

Traded some nobody for Jagr.

The Pens went 52-19-11 in the regular season, and sprinted their way into the finals, never playing a Game 7. In the SCF, the Pens met the Red Wings, where the series went to 6 games, and ended when Ovechkin scored in OT.

Notables:
Crosby had 103 points, Ovy had 96, and Eriksson had 74 in the regular season.

Playoff scoring-The Pens played 23 games/
Crosby led the way with 27 points. Ovy had 25. Jagr provided great scoring from the 2nd line, with 20 points. Loui Eriksson cooled off a bit, but still managed 17 points.

Tonight I started a GM with the Dallas Stars, and the first post should be tomorrow. I redesigned their jerseys, so there will likely be pictures. I've already made a bunch of crazy changes to the team so the first post should be very interesting!

How do you make custom jerseys for your team?

I went into Create-A-Team, where you can design your own jerseys. Then I just copied the Dallas roster onto my new team, and replaced the Stars with my new team when I started up the GM. I had to re-name them the Dallas Neptunes, because "Stars" isn't a useable name in Create-A-Team. It worked out though, since I used the Minnesota North Stars logo.
