Some fun random stats, since the season is over and I enjoy looking at numbers:
Jaccob Slavin finished the season with one penalty. A delay of game minor for putting the puck over the glass. This has already been pointed out, but I think it bears repeating. Slavin played 23 minutes a game against guys like Barkov, Kane, Larkin, etc. and not once did he have to hook or trip a guy to break up a play. That comes to 0.05 penalties per 60 minutes of ice time. He was also on the ice for 60 even strength goals, which led the team.
When Martin Nečas was on the ice, the Canes had an even strength goals for percentage of 71.7%. This led the team, and is actually best in the league among forwards. He also played just shy of a minute per game on the PK, and was on the ice for 4 shorthanded goals scored. His shorthanded points per 60 came to 4.71, good for second in the league behind Marchand. He REALLY stepped up after Teuvo got injured.
Jordan Staal was on pace for 59 points over 82 games, which would easily have been his best total as a Cane. He actually managed to finish the year with more goals than Svech. If somebody had told me that at the beginning of the season, I'd have laughed in their face.
Ned finished the season with a 15-5-3 record, a save percentage of .932 and a GAA of 1.90, making him the league leader in both those categories. He won't win, but hopefully he winds up being one of the finalists for the Calder Trophy.
The team as a whole finished the season with a .714 points percentage, which ties Boston last year for the tenth best record by any team since 05-06. The powerplay finished at 25.6%, good for eighth best over the same timespan.
Man, what a great f***ing year, even if the last few games were stinkers. I have full faith in Rod and the boys to pick it up now that the games are going to matter again.
