I personally don't care about so called asterisks. Lockout shortened season, season after a lockout with rule changes, weird 24 team tourney. Who cares? The competitors all had the same rules and situations.

As a fan of an asterisk season, it's never once bothered or taken away from my memories. I couldn't care less if others let it bother them.

"The day came when you can identify with an NHL-star? I mean, I don't think being stuck in Oulu is a bad situation, the sun shines and Wolt delivers, but aren't we all a bit stuck at this time."

Nečas skills charity work with the kids.

The Žďár Hockey Club opened a new shooting range for young people in 2020 with the help of sponsorship donations, and today this novelty at Bouchalky is officially open to SKLH Žďár nad Sázavou players of all ages. And we couldn't invite anyone other than the Canadian-American NHL player, Martin Nečas, to open a new shooting range!

Semi-update on ticket refunds:

Canes sent a memo to STMs today explaining that credit for unplayed games will be rolled over to 20-21 package payments. BUT, it also provides a link to opt out of that credit and request a refund.

There is also a line about how STMs will be required to pay back the proceeds of resales done through TM Exchange in the event that “paused” games are cancelled, which implies they are preparing a mechanism to create a pool of cash for refunds to some single-game buyers.

I'm not sure where to put this, so here it is. Since we're affiliated w/ the Swamp Rabbits, I don't like this news. Two teams w/ one owner isn't something to get excited about.

On The Faceoff this week, they discussed Raleigh as an option again as one the quad possibilities. Sounded like Pittsburgh is the top choice in our division with us as the 2nd choice - dependent upon Covid cases.

The company is completely motorsports based. They’re based in Cornelius, the heart of race country. Their entire staff has motorsports connections. All their clients are drivers. Their properties are a race team and some tracks.

And, inexplicably, two ECHL teams.

That’s a weird investor with no reason to commit to hockey, and frankly I’d be nervous if I were a Greenville fan.

So it's Spire Sports + Entertainment who owns the Swamp Rabbits née Road Warriors née...

IIRC, Richard Petty owned the Checkers back in the day. Gives them an off season toy to play with.

He was an investor through Felix Sabates, who had NASCAR connections. But Sabates made his money in merchandising, and he invested in sports broadly including the Hornets.

This is a case of a speciality niche company that deals exclusively in motorsports, diving into multiple ECHL franchises for reasons that aren’t apparent on the surface. It’s either a very strange business model, or something else is happening here.

Would suck if the Swamp Rabbits became no more. Greenville is a good market for minor-league Hockey and the arena is solid for the markets size.

But, it wouldn't be the first time they've lost a team (remember the Growl?)

I agree, Greenville is a place where minor league sports should work. Nice sized city, decent levels of income and corporate activity, solid arena.

I didn’t mean to imply they might go away. My concern is more that they’re being bought by a group with no expertise or prior interest in hockey. Seems like a situation where the owner is “dabbling” and could be either uncommitted, incompetent, or both.

I wondered idly as I dozed off to sleep last night: is there any currently unrealized benefit to an NHL team more directly controlling an ECHL team that can be put to some kind of use?

I can't think anything except if they got some fresh insights on goalie development after the Darling debacle and the Helvig case and most of all us running out of NHL goalies in that somewhat well-reported incident.

I feel like you’re missing like five g’s in growl.

I used to think that name was cool, then I didn't. Now I can appreciate it simply because the ECHL had such names once upon a time. Macon Whoopee anyone?

That's what has me "scared" as well. The Swamp Rabbits have done a nice job promoting themselves throughout the SC Upstate and have a nice following in that area. Bad ownership usually involves doing nothing to promote the team and therefore fewer people show up and you get the "Hurr-durr we have a Hockey team here?!" jackasses riled up. And before you know it, poof the team relocates to Trenton, or just outright folds.

You can't send a player to ECHL without his consent unless he is on ELC, and outside of secondary goalie prospects you probably don't count on players signed on NHL contract who need to be sent to AHL anyway.

9.6 Loans to East Coast Hockey League. Players who are party to an Entry Level SPC may be Loaned to the East Coast Hockey League ("ECHL") without the requirement of Player consent, provided the Player will continue to be paid the stated amount of the AHL portion of his two-way SPC.

Apparently the conditioning loans for players returning from injury can only be done to AHL so I don't think there's anything to be done with that either.
