There's been talk of going 7 defensemen, but why? I get you have 8 healthy ones, but why not give a Charlotte guy a look for the weekend? I mean, the Checkers have been scoring. Terry has 9 points, Boychuk and Palushaj 7 and even Rask has been hot lately with 6.

Roster space?

Skinner has already been ruled out for the weekend, and if he goes on IR retro to October 25 he should be ready for November 5 (assuming he gets healthy).

Or they could just throw Westgarth on IR and forget about him. It's not as if he'd be missed.

Pretty heated discussion/confrontation between Gleason and Komi near end of practice today. Didn't see what started it, but,did pick up a few F-bombs and glares. Shasha stepped in as peacemaker. Just wondering WTF?

I think what you meant to say was: Good Canadian boy talks strategy with good American boy while Russian cancer tries to get in the way.

I'm getting sick and ****ing tired of Gleason. It seems as though he's always involved with skirmishes/disagreements in practice. I wish Faulk kept the A.

I really think Komi should be getting an extended look at some time. He brings what we need. I liked Bellemore but Komi, while slower brought stronger play with a more experienced feel. He's a steal and we should at leaast try to take advantage of it. He's gonna need a few games to settle in, and the longer we wait the shorter his leash will be.

He and Komisarek are two of the only guys who don't run from physical contact, and scrums tend to follow physical contact.

Was going to say the same thing. In a practice I watched a while ago, Komisarek was the only one (Gleason was out) throwing some hits and a few guys seemed to not like it. They weren't overly big hits or anything dirty, but he was being physical. Can't blame him though. He's on the outside looking in and practice is where he has to show enough for the coaches to give him a chance.

I get the argument for Komisarek, but there's literally no good reason for Gleason to play overly physically in practice. And correct me if I'm wrong, but from my hockey playing experience there aren't really any drills that involve defensemen playing physically against each other, and that scenario almost certainly wouldn't play out in a scrimmage.

Gleason has absolutely nothing to prove to anyone inside the organization (except maybe being an actual top four defenseman). For him to be playing physically in practice is just irresponsible and dangerous. He has nothing to gain from it. I mean for ****'s sake this is the same guy who missed ~10 games because he fought in a ******* preseason game.

Could just as easily have been a matter of him taking exception to Komisarek's physicality. It was described as a "confrontation" and nothing more.

All I'm saying is players like Komi and Gleason tend to get in scrums because of the way they play the game. Every team has incidents like this, it's generally just glossed over unless it blows up into an actual fight.

Skinner and Dvorak to IR retro to about a week ago so starting tomorrow they could come off whenever. Skinner and Westgarth have been ruled out for the weekend and Dvorak is unlikely for tomorrow, maybe for Saturday. Muller hinted at 7 defensemen today, but why? The 7th would either be Bellemore or Komisarek, and does that really give you a better opportunity to win than bringing up a guy like Malhotra?

EDiT: Scratch the above.

Chip Alexander ‏@ice_chip
GM Jim Rutherford says Malhotra will be at morning skate tomorrow and will play against Tampa Bay.

Never thought I'd see a day where fans were complaining that one of our players was TOO physical.

Brett Sutter on waivers for the purpose of going to Charlotte.

I hate this. He is a perfect fourth line player. If they are keeping Bowman over Sutter for the strict purpose of playing him on the fourth line, then this is a gigantic fail.

Muller has moved Bowman up for a few shifts here and there, and he's gotten some PP time recently, but I just don't see what he brings to the table either. But it may be a moot point regardless. When healthy, we might be looking at something like this (though I'd still flip Tlusty and Gerbe):

Tlusty // Eric // Semin
Gerbe // Jordan // Dwyer
Skinner // Lindholm // Ruutu
Nash // Malhotra // Dvorak

Westgarth, Bowman, Sutter

Skinner and Dvorak probably aren't too far off, and one is obviously ready. I'd rather have that 4th line (or swap Dwyer/Dvorak) than putting in any of the scratches.

There is a drill the Canes do quite often and it sometimes pits defensemen against each other. They start 2 on 2 from the blue line in and go until either the offense scores or the D gets the puck, then they add another player to the mix (and sometimes it's a D as if he is on the blue line) and go 3-2. Then they add another to make it 3 on 3.

This drill is usually very physical and I sometimes see defense pitted against defense going into the corners.

How sad is it that nearly all of us have "accepted" Dwyer being a staple on the second line?

It makes seriously zero sense to me that Lindholm isn't in his spot/Dwyer isn't on the fourth line.

Dwyer's defense is the only thing keeping him on Line 2, but even that's been slipping. Lindholm would be way overmatched on that line right now if it's still being used as a "shut down" pairing. Wouldn't mind seeing Dvorak get a crack there though.

I think we just need to scrap the defensive mindset. All forward lines get the green light offensively. D gets the freedom to pinch everytime. Puck in our zone? Who cares? Skate the other way. At least this way we'll get some exciting hockey.

It's quite obvious this style of play doesn't work for this team. Our players just aren't suited for it. You need people willing to work and we have pretty much the opposite in the players that have any chance at scoring goals.

That way Lindholm could get top6 time and maybe get Jordan going too.

Do we 100% know it's his wrist? I know he left the ice once and then when back on the bench he was flexing it. But once he was back and took a shift he had a center ice collision by the benches and skated off like he was in serious pain.

That ain't good.

A 2nd opinion is usually the result of not liking the 1st opinion!

Best offensive player, and I suspect he's not going to play again this month.
