Anyone see an RFA getting offer sheeted? I really doubt it (because of collusion by the GMs IMO) but, if for example, someone offered a loaded contract to Torey Krug, it'd totally screw up the B's cause theyve got no cap space. Just wondering people's thoughts.

It happened with Chicago a few years back. Someone offer sheeted a forward knowing if they matched than they wouldn't be able to afford their goalie.

Philly also offer sheeted Shea Webber.

Calgary Ryan O Rielly.

San Jose offer sheeted Hjalmarsson to ensure the Blackhawks would have to let Niemi go.

Wow, between letting players walk and players signing over seas out prospects are really changing out from last year to this. Definitely a transition for the AHL and NHL club. Especially with Larsson, Gelinas and Merrill all being with the big club.

Islanders will be competitive with the Devils. Handicap the Devils maybe slightly better on paper now, because of defensive discipline? But if you set them up against each other in a seven game series right now on paper . . . results would be hard to call.

The Islanders haven't won a playoff series in 20 years. They're a team that lacks depth, refuses to spend to the cap max, and has invested in a mediocre goalie. They were a complete disaster last year, and it only takes a couple injuries to derail them, because they lack quality replacement players. The Islanders surviving 82 games, then coming out ahead of a team that dominates in possession like the Devils is unlikely.

I wish Lou signed Devin Setoguchi, he's fast, scores goals, and can be had pretty cheaply due to his terrible 2013.

Low-risk signing IMO due to $ and tremendous upside if he returns to 20 goal form.

Would rather see havlat as the low risk high reward signing

Agreed. Don't understand the fascination with Setoguchi. No one has even signed him yet (I don't think?).

Havlat is still a productive player (not what he used to be though) he just gets injured a lot these past few seasons.

Avalanche sign defenseman Maxim Noreau to a two year, one way contract. Noreau had been playing in Switzerland and was briefly Devils property in 2011. Not quite sure where he fits on their depth chart, but he'd probably be a 3rd pairing PP specialist if he makes it.

Good for Volchenkov. I actually said last Summer that Volchenkov would likely NOT be signed by another NHL team after being bought out by us. I went back on that statement after he seemed to have a decent year (with sheltered minutes) this past season. So I'm not surprised that he was signed by an NHL team to another contract.

Nashville Predators President of Hockey Operations/General Manager David Poile released the following statement today regarding forward Mike Fisher.

“Predators forward and alternate captain Mike Fisher sustained a ruptured Achilles tendon during a training session and underwent successful surgery on Thursday, July 3. We expect Mike to make a full recovery in four-to-six months, and look forward to his return to the ice.”

Perhaps a landing spot for Derek Roy or more reason to trade for Lecavalier.
