Oh FFS. Please tell me we aren't going to have a commisar in the locker room. Svech has successfully avoided the Putin taint so far...

Given this is the first we are all hearing about it, I don't think there's much to worry about

LOL, why would we care about if some foreign guy has the audacity to support the leader of the country he's from? Especially when the evidence of this is- let me get this straight- his wife merely "liking" a post of some gymnast who likes Putin. Wow.

Kind of disingenuous to say she “merely liked a post by someone who likes Putin”. The content of said post is pretty important.

Fine, but the wife of some guy hitting the like button once (which is very easy to fat finger when scrolling through posts) is a long way from, say, if he got up to a microphone and was like "Tap...tap...is this thing on? I like to say I support war of Mother Russia and may Czar Putin drink the blood of every man, woman and child in the Ukraine!"

Look, even though Svech hasn't said anything about it...you guys have to know he's down with Putin, and probably the war. Does it eat away at you every time you see him touch the puck? What dark, imperious thoughts he might be harboring behind those symmetrical Slavic features? How dare he toil away in such a progressive city when he hasn't publicly denounced the country of his birth?

I do love the immigration reform energy you see on the referenced tweet. Mass deportations and visa revocations, you say? That is now within the acceptable realm of actions to be taken by the government? Hmmmm, might just have to look into that, LOL

I’m not too interested in people’s politics. I’m here to watch hockey so unless they’re vocal about supporting something ridiculous I generally don’t care.

Blaming liking a post like that on your fat fingers is pretty funny, though. Pretty sure I’ve never accidentally liked something. What would be the chance that when it happens it’s not just some trivial post but something in support of an unjust ear? I don’t buy it.

I have. And then had to unlike it. But then again I struggle getting the goddamned TV apps to change the channel without exiting the app or otherwise causing chaos

Incidentally, the gymnast in question is Alex Radulov’ ex-wife. Before they split up, she gained some media interest running through a bunch of his money on frivolities. Amusing moment in an interview where she mentioned that she flat-out would/could not cook for him. They made a go of trying to have her cook and Radulov ended up with food poisoning, at which point they had to hire a chef. They didn’t last long as a couple (he’s a piece of work in his own right).

Sounds like a match made in heaven.

I don't care about the rest of your post, but I am curious as to why you believe Svech is down with Putin? Is it just because he's Russian?

Because obviously, if you're from a country, you must support that country's leader blindly. That's why you're so pro-Biden, right?

I may be way off base but if you’re a Russian who played next to ovechkin for however many years and didn’t get sucked into any of his Putin bullshit maybe it really is something you are truly against, or something you are committed to not getting involved in. Or maybe you just truly don’t give a shit about anything but hockey. I don’t know

I imagine most players (most people, really) are the same. They don’t really care about politics or politicians until it affects their day-to-day life. Ovechkin, obviously, was under that influence for a long time. Possibly from birth, given his mom and dad’s fame. But I don’t think every Russian player automatically supports Putin just because of where they’re born

I mean, he may very well not be. And I hope he isn't, quite frankly.

But- yes, Russians do seem a bit more nationalistic than many cultures. And if Biden had been literally the only leader I have ever known in my life, hell, I may very well be down with him. And many Americans were down with the invasion of Iraq despite it being done for no legitimate reason merely because they didn't want to feel/appear disloyal.

I just think it's more likely than not that he is fine with Putin and even the war. He's wisely not said anything about it...but if folks are going to become inquisitors because a dude's wife hit the like button, I'm just saying maybe they should start being concerned about if Svech has correct opinions about things.
