Not that they're remotely similar players, but the Daniel Sprong situation in Pittsburgh was thanks to burning a year off of his ELC, which resulted in him being waiver eligible in his 2nd season instead of his 3rd and being stuck in that limbo of not being good enough to play for the Penguins, but unable to develop in the minors without being claimed.
Apparently in Peehling's case, due to his age, waiver-eligibility is not affected by the burning of a year of ELC.



but as you said, they are not even remotely similar.

lets not pretend the Habs have a strong history of player development over the last decade. Poehling could become a great NHL'er or he could become McCarron or Scherback or Tinordi or some other first rounder who never developed to meet expectations.
The difference between Poehling and those guys is speed and hockey IQ. McCarron it’s sad because he lacks speed, Scherbak can’t play in his own zone and it’s not even funny.
