Potentially significant development for the US Men's National Team over the last few days...
One of the best U-21 strikers in Europe at the moment is Reims' Folarin Balogun, who is currently 3rd in Ligue 1 scoring with 17 goals in 27 games. He's just two goals off the league lead, and has more goals this year than Messi or Neymar. He's on loan to Reims from Arsenal.
Balogun was born in the United States to Nigerian parents, and grew up in England. He's eligible to play for all three countries. He's spent much of his youth playing for English Youth National Teams, although he did play for the US U-18 National Team briefly in 2018.
Given his form in the French League, there was speculation that he may be called up to the Full England National Team, but was left off the squad and called in to their U-21 camp instead. Balogun then posted a cryptic message to his Instagram account that read "In life, go where you're appreciated."
Yesterday, Balogun left the England U-21 camp, reportedly due to injury. Reims had never listed Balogun as being injured, so it came as something of a surprise.
Earlier today, Balogun posted two pictures outside of a restaurant to his Instagram account. Eagle-eyed soccer fans have traced the location to a restaurant in Orlando.
The USMNT is currently in camp, based just outside of Orlando.
