Jost was always a question mark because his pre draft stats were amassed in the BCHL, not the CHL. Same with Newhook, but at least he wasn't rushed to the NHL.
Maybe teams look at Jost/Mittelstadt and say you need at least 2 years of college to develop if you aren’t dominating like Connor/Eichel.

What the f*** is this. Isn't Tyson Jost a top prospect? Nico Sturm?

Jost hasn't been a top prospect for about 4 years, he's a bottom 6 guy who wasn't bringing bottom 6 qualities to the Avs, which Nico Sturm seems better suited to doing

There is still a chance Jost puts it together in Minnesota though, he's a great locker room guy and they badly need centers

Jost being rushed has been debated on the AVs Board, but he's played 5 NHL seasons. Maybe spending another 1-2 seasons in college could have improved his development, still doesn't change being a 20-30 point player. He doesn't have the size, strength or skating abilities to be that much better. Already playing this many season, career likely plateaued at being a fringe player likely on the 4th line.

Changing teams could rejuvenate his career, AVs focused on skating and speed was not a good fit.

Well, he's 24 and he has 321 regular season games and 40 playoff games under his belt...so while he might still have untapped potential, he certainly doesn't fit in the "prospect" category any more, let alone qualify as a "top prospect."

Seems like a solid trade for both. MN gets a guy with maybe a little more upside and who may fit their lineup a bit better. Avs get a guy who fits what they need a little better and get some extra cap space. Neither is probably going to really move the needle either way, but at the same time, it would be hard to argue either team could get weaker by the move.

Meh, neither guy is going to move the needle. C+ for both teams.

C+!?

Did you go to school in the 60's? Grade inflation has relegated anything below B- to failing. Middle of the curve is now A-/B+. The top of the curve has shifted to S tier, "Generational," or doing something "Quietly."

You can't look at the performance of an underperforming player before a trade and decide that because they struggled in the past they will struggle in the future. Jost still has loads of talent, but doesn't belong on a roster trying to win a cup right now. Meanwhile the Avs need large defensive forwards in their prime to populate their bottom 6.

I would say this trade is a quiet A+.
