Being a tough physical player is not equivalent to being able to take a haymaker. Ovie jumps to hit all the time and the refs allow his cloak of no touchie to exist. Get after him.face wash him. Etc. Ryan M is strong athlete but he dropped like a sack when simmonds got to him.

Like Christopher Reeves people need to get of their high horses. Now these people aren't true fans whatever the hell that means. Emotional crowd is emotional. What savages!

Can we get off this bracelet thing. Other fans have done dumb things and we forget about it. Octopus and Rats to name a few. Philly is always going to have that bad reputation because of the Broad Street Bullies. So let's not be the fans that feed the fire. It was dumb, but really innocuous. Let it die

Uh, it's been 17 hours...

What do you expect?

All I know is, I'm afraid of the lineup, PP and PK not changing (outside of maybe the goalie) for the next game. If PEB gets suspended, you're going to have to add someone else. But still, I'm afraid we're going to sit back on the PK and never be aggressive and with the PP where we will never get traffic in front of Holtby so he can't see anything. I'm afraid we're not going to change anyone on the defense (especially Manning and maybe Streit) for someone that may have a better shot at doing better than both (watch someone like Meds over Streit come out and do well or maybe even bring in Morin instead of Manning). I dunno, maybe I'm being wishful, but I just hate how we stay as is when what we're doing clearly isn't working.

Ovechkin is just a big, fast Mofo, Lindros without concussions.
Live with it.

In two years, we'll have the defensemen who are big enough to challenge him, Gudas has the guts, just not the mass.

Morin, Gudas, Sanheim, Myers, Provorov and Alt are all young D-men we have that are either tall/big (Morin, Sanheim, Myers and Alt) or built like brick walls (like Provorov and Gudas). So we should be able to push on with being tougher in the future, but sadly, not that tough right now.

Crossing the line from time to time comes with the territory of being a physical player with gifted size and intensity like Ovechkin. That doesn't make him dirty. Although, I can't even remember the last time he crossed the line.

That's the kind of stuff where you can shrug your shoulders and say "that's just hockey".

Last controversial Ovi hit was March 6th against Boston, a boarding call against Kevan Miller which injured Miller and got Ovi a major. Quick google search comes up with two youtube compilations.

That sentiment doesn't seem applicable to real life. Shrugging shoulders and saying, it's a hockey play can, but shouldn't, fit the Bellemare hit. Looks like Orlov started to fall into the walls, and it didn't look like Bellemare finished a check. I thought he tried to avoid the contact, and slowed down to lessen the contact. But it was a bad play, and resulted in a penalty. That territory either should, or shouldn't be in the game, but it should not be excluded for some, and allowable for others.

Ovi is dirty like Neal, but both are way too good of players to be mentioned with Cooke, just their usage and place in the game makes the comparison not as applicable.

Ovi and Wilson are birds of similar feathers. Both play the game, oh so close to the edge, and neither have been suspended (recently) so they're not seen as dirty. If one of these questionable hits gets a suspension, then they will be seen as dirty. As Gudas is a similar player, but having been suspended, is mislabeled a good and dirty, he plays a mirror type game to Wilson, who is just a tough guy because never suspended.

blah blah blah

Tom Wilson: "The fact that we can have that meltdown in their rink is awesome."

I've read this several times and I know what he means but it sounds as if the Caps had the meltdown last night....are there pop-up grammar books for the big toddler?

Wilson comes across as a sincerely stupid person. Which is reflected by his tendency to be penalized for making the exact same hit over and over and over without learning.

I feel bad for him. Won't bode well for life after hockey.

IMO, barring a terrible camp and preseason, Provorov makes the team. He and the Flyers have nothing to gain by leaving him in the WHL to skate circles around inferior talent.

If Hanifin came in and played well for the Canes, then Rpovorov has 0 issues coming up to play with us next season. Provorov and Morin coming up next season is exactly what this club needs.

Every time this team gets eliminated or struggles for any period of time the same tired, lazy argument about leadership gets brought out by the same predictable group of usual suspects. Then when the new season starts or they start doing well that group disappears and the leadership talk disappears with them.

It's highly predictable and obvious so I just ignore it at this point. There's only so many times you can mention that the team exceeded expectations based on talent level.

The octopus and rats are also highly disingenuous comparisons. People keep mentioning the bracelets thing without mentioning the context of it all, being that it was on an Ed Snider tribute night, done in anger, intentionally caused a penalty for the home team, caused both Simmonds/Ovechkin to plead for fans to stop, and had Lou Nolan going at it with the fans over the PA system. Also, throwing a bracelet at a guy getting medical attention.

Just saying, people keep skimping over the facts of the incident and making disanalogous comparisons. It wasn't just "the fans threw bracelets".

Exactly how I feel. Trade Streit as well in the off-season if need be.

That really does look very solid to me. Some massive additions by subtractions and potential additions on their own.

Holtby got hurt in today's practice. Don't call it a comeback!

Come on, that's not fair.

When the playoffs begin, fans are in the dark when it comes to player injuries. Nobody knows if Giroux is injured and if he is, what the injury is. For most of the season Giroux wasn't the same level of player we came to expect. It wasn't until Ghost emerged that Giroux's game when from "so-so" to "awesome" pretty much overnight. So, is Giroux legit injured or is he frustrated and under-achieving? None of us know for sure.

But, if we're being honest, like Keith Jones said the other night, "come playoff time, NOBODY in the NHL is 100% healthy." Some players continue to perform and produce when injured and others don't. Without specific knowledge of any injuries to Giroux, it's hard to determine. But if he's healthy enough to play, he needs to be counted on to provide some offense, no? After all, he is the captain and team's best player. If you can't rely on him to lead the charge, who can you rely on?

sure it is fair. for example when Jeff Carter was here everyone knew he was playing with a broken foot one year in the playoffs and had a sinificant injury in a couple other playoff runs was largely ineffective. yet the typical crew was jut flat out ignoring the fact and was non stop being critical of his play.
it is quite obvious Jake is hurt. Everyone knows it. Yet people are acting like this is his normal self. You are right. Maybe Giroux is hurt. Maybe he isn't. Maybe he is just worn down trying to carry this team on his back for the past 5 years with really no help with the exception of a few players up front.
But it is what is around here with injured players in the playoffs. If he sits because he is hurt he is a *****. If he plays hurt he is a bum for playing hurt. Cant have it both way kids.
This board has always been consistent with it that is for sure.

The upgrade of Provorov and Morin > Manning, AMac, and Streit is substantial. Then we give Sanheim a year or so of what he needs and it's an absolute bonus. We are looking at the best defense is possible Flyers history if everyone can pan out (or 3/4 of them). Plus we have Myers if needed and so forth.

The way they can transition to give the offense a chance (which will also be upgraded) will be a huge sigh of relief. Not to mention this benefits Mason on possibly having his best stats of his career starting when these guys come.

Caps will choke as usual, and we will get the last laugh soon enough. (I ****ING HOPE)
