I find it interesting everyone is now talking joints and ligaments and...

Where is that coming from?

The guy thought he broke his leg. Sure there could be that kind of damage but the replay shows little in the way of stretching or extending and a lot of straight up impact.

If you want to speculate shouldn't the guess work be based on impact type injuries?

Or maybe they are just getting other opinions to be on the safe side when it comes to their franchise player.

Until someone says something, it could just be second and third opinions to confirm what they already know.
Yep.

1. He went into that post super hard

2. McDavids skating is his biggest asset, keeping that at 100% is important

3. Because of 2 best absolute healing path is good to make sure

It sounds like they don’t know, which is par for the course for Clownshoes Cats and his litter box.

Well yeah, it's pretty obvious they don't know. If you knew what the problem was, or the full extent of it, you wouldn't be going for additional opinions. I know when I drop a cup, it's going to fall, gravity is pretty consistent like that. I don't need a second opinion on that. The question isn't whether they know the full story, they clearly don't, the question is whether what they DO know indicates a bad injury or not. They could very well think its a sprain of some sort, and want other specialists to look at it, just to make sure it isn't something worse than a sprain.

How is this par for the course when they are actually doing due diligence and taking steps to ensure it’s treated correctly?

There are many reasons to criticize the org but this situation isn’t one of them.

Well you're not going to have an MRI unless you're looking at soft tissue (muscle, tendon, ligament, meniscus, capsule, etc.). You can easily injure any of the above from any type of impact that causes the tibia to translate, twist, shear, compress, or distract from the femur. Given the type of brace he was shown in I would assume they are looking at joint related damage, likely ligament. Certainly doesn't mean there's a serious injury, but MRI's despite being the gold standard are not perfect and can miss damage. Technically so can x-rays with bone, but its far less likely in this case.

I can guarantee you he is getting the best medical evaluation out there. Diagnostic imaging is not black and white and certainly not perfect. While Katz is awful at owning a hockey team, I can guarantee the specialists he is seeing are experts and know what they are doing.

He’s out and about so the swelling must have reduced to a point that their working on mobility and doing some additional prodding just to be sure is my hope.

They were pretty firm on the x-rays that things are good but since the additional testing have not been saying much. It’s bad enough that surgery is being recommended and the additional testing is the teams attempt at steering him away from missing most if not all of next year is my guess.

It’s about fillin them seats ya’ll. If it’s bad you won’t hear a thing until the end of May.

I suspect McDavid is in the same boats as other guys. There is damage and they want to see if this is something that will truly repair itself or if they don't get surgery now that they might have to get it down the road.

I'd sure hope when you are talking about the best player in the game that you are getting multiple opinions and figuring out what is best for the player.

McDavid himself might be seeing that guys have decided against surgery in the past only to have it linger latter on.

I don't buy that at all.

Can't remember who it was, but I listened to a trainer guy on one of the 1260 shows, and he brought up how a serious contusion can trigger the bones to do unwanted things when the body is trying to heal. I'm doubting at this point it has to do with the knee or ankle. I think they just need to make sure a bad contusion heals up well without any complications.

Myositis Ossificans is what you're referring to. It's rare, but is a condition where calcium is absorbed into the muscle and leads to bone formation in the muscle. It occurred to Cam Neely.
