Apparently that type of brace is for ligament damage....

I see why they sought out second/third opinions now. The margin between surgery and rest is small for slight ACL and PCL tears, owing to the limited blood flow to the middle of the knee joint.

This injury is the cherry on top of this steaming turd of a season.
Meaningless game for a non-playoff team and we get a potential career altering injury. Hopefully McDavid heals quick and just as importantly he can adjust to skating and playing with the brace with minimum adjustment needed to his game. Hope theres no mental issues from this that cause him to second guess himself when playing and especially when driving hard to the net.

Career altering? Adjust to skating with a brace? What? He also already said he’s never going to change his game.

Great job to the ER doc that called a PCL tear earlier in the thread. 3 months rehab doesn't sound like a small tear though.

I think they just want to be sure it's 100% healed. Hell even an ankle sprain can take that long to get back to normal.

They keep them where management keeps their brains.
naw. Their heads are in their backsides, their balls however are resting on the butt cheeks of the season ticket holders. It's a position they learned from.the old oilers in management.

He won't be playing with that brace. If you're going to injure any of the 4 major knee ligaments as an athlete the PCL is the one you want to injure. Given that it's only a grade 2 sprain and not a grade 3 is very good news.

Sure it does given that it's the PCL which has very limited blood supply given that it is located inside the joint capsule. A grade 1 sprain of any major knee ligament is around 4-6 weeks recovery, and with that there is little to no actual tear in the ligament and mostly just stretching of its fibres. McDavid's injury is a grade 2 sprain, and a grade 3 would require surgery to heal.

Yeah, sprains can take 3 months lots of times. He was injured on April 6th, and camp opens roughly on September 6th. That is five months. He'll likely not be in "top shape" until 1/3rd through the season, but he'll likely be fine long term. The problem is that small tears can be tricky beasts, and can flare up afterwards. The fact that this is happening in the off-season is a blessing really, as he will have a long time to heal properly. Even if it takes 2 months longer than normal, he should be able to be at camp at around 90% better.
