I would not read too much into such a small sample. He will still score goals but he just took a big hit in support talent. It's hard to believe his new C is going to give him more opportunity than his linemates in Winnipeg. He may also have to change his game some.
Yeah that's true. He has continued on his improved all around game from last season and has been somewhat driving play and creating chances for others with his passing. And as he is the go to superstar forward in Columbus he needs to do that. I think he can take that next step this season to become a true superstar forward in this league, but we'll see.

He sure has more to give but as you say, they will need him to be an everything man for the foreseeable future.

Matthews, and decidedly. We're in the process of watching this happen, don't see how it can be argued otherwise.

This argument that Laine has a better shot than Matthews just doesn't pass the eye test. Patrik Laine has a great shot, Auston Matthews has an even greater shot. Release, velocity, accuracy - all 3 Auston's is superior and I bet if you were to poll NHL tenders they'd tell you the same thing.

No eye test does not tell you Matthews has the better shot, but okay. That's why matthews highlights are in front of the net while Laine's is closer to the blue line

You think Laine struggles to get himself open?

You're talking about Teemu Pulkkinen.

As consistently as the other two, yes, I do. If Laine could find the openings or be in position to find loose pucks as much as Matthews or Ovechkin do, he has the kind of shooting ability to be a consistent 50+ goal guy. The reason he's more in the 35-40 goal range is because he doesn't.

This is just not true at all. Release, accuracy, VELOCITY TOO? If you have actually watched both players more than a little, you have to be hugely biased to think that. Matthews has a very impressive shot, but the reason why he has scored more than Laine this far in their careers is that he is just better in other facets of the game, and generates more high danger scoring chances for himself. But just pure shooting, Laine is better. If Matthews had Laine's shot (Or if Laine had Matthews' overall game) the combined player would score 60+ goals a year.

Matthews scores most of his goals close to the goal, while Laine often beats goalies clean from far away.

Matthews and Pasta could fight back and forth for awhile, but Matthews' release is just so effortless I think, like Ovi, he'll age far better than most goalscorers which will be the big difference.

How do you validate effortless shots?

Matthews>Pasta (only by a hair)>Laine. Laine has not been able to score goals as consistently or to the same extent as the other two yet. If we're being honest Draisaitl should replace Laine in this poll.

Everyone who's not a leafs fan accepts Laine's laser
Since Laine no longer plays in Winnipeg will he not get as much hype anymore because he no longer plays for a Canadian team? For example next season when Toronto plays Columbus will anyone care that it's Matthews vs Laine because they were both 1st and 2nd overall in the 2016 Draft.

On the other hand Laine has the hottest streaks of them all and if he can be more consistent he might be best of the bunch.

And what does that have to do with Laine's shot?

Maybe he won't get as much credit for his shot without the Canadian media to hype him up the next time he plays against Matthews and their style of play is compared with each other.
You’re the only one that keeps bringing up Matthews or the media. Yet you seem to get upset every time someone brings up how Matthews was compared to McDavid. So it’s only the comparisons that bothered you that are ok to be rehashed?

Did you not see his last goal? The hype about his shot doesn't disappear because he doesn't play for the Jets anymore lol

Talent isn't based on who you play for huh lol

Player X is better than player Y because he plays more games?

That's a dumb argument

Player X is going to score more goals than Player Y because he scores less goals is even dumber

If a player scores 30 goals a season but only plays 60 games a year versus a guy who scores 31 in 82 and they play the same length career who will end up scoring more goals?

I hope you didn't hurt yourself with that stretch. The question is who is the better goal scorer. Assuming both are healthy there is one clear answer.

When they were both healthy last year who scored more goals again in the same amount of games played?
And the year before that, when they both got hurt and one player played 2 more games but scored one less goal, who scored more that season?
