The Minny one would be good for both teams.

Minny gets an offensive catalyst, that they haven’t had... since... Marian Gaborik?

Leafs get a solid Dman, size and a solid middle 6 piece that could elevate playing with Matthews or Tavares.

No from Minnesota. Again Minnesota doesnt need wingers or have room for one.

scoring wasnt wild issues who was one of the top teams in NHL scoring wise 5 on 5

No, wild don't want Marner's contract contract when they have to resign Fiala and Kaprizov.

No, winger doesnt feel Minnesota's need. Joel Eriksson Ek isn't going anywhere as he's a c

my first impressions of these:
Tkachuk is not being traded, Fla overpay in their deal, Wild underpay in theirs

but I just do not see TML moving Marner (or Nylander) without retention, not in this flat cap era
gotta pay to play, especially in complicated times

Trading Marner would be an admission from Dubas that his "plan" has failed, that the core he's built around just isn't good enough.

So I don't see it happening, at least not this year.

One more kick at the can.

Zero chance hes moved now. There was a minute chance he moved if Leafs were able to nab Pie (and even then its doubtful), but that didn't come to be . 22 year old superstars aren't dealt, and if they are typically its a mistake (Seguin, Hall).

Or Toronto just makes due with their roster as it is constructed today. Which is what will happen next year.

Ottawa:
Marner

Toronto:
1st 2021 (top 3 protected)
2nd 2021
Brannstrom
Drake Batherson
I wouldn't do anything close to this.

Marner is a very good hockey player, but even in a pre-covid cap era, I'd have zero interest in his caphit.

Stutzle, Chucky, Marner would eat too much of our cap space, we'd be in the same situation they're in now.

From a value perspective, we're going to finish bottom 10 without a doubt. Brannstrom and Batherson + a top 10, is a bit rich for my blood.

Marner at 11 million... Yeah he's a Leaf for the duration of that contract.

Or at least 2 years after the flat cap has been lifted when tes will have more room.
Nah, once he puts up 25 to 30 goals and 90 plus points next sesson that contract dont seem that bad...

Why would the Flames do any of these 2 trades?

The only reason I’d remotely entertain JG for Marner is because JG is UFA in 2 and may leave. Even then... Marners contract is way too rich for our cap. JG cap of 6.75 looks way more attractive.

As for the Chucky trade... f*** no.

Marner's great, but that contract is much more inhibitive than any Leafs fan here wants to admit.

Not a huge deal for them because they're "stuck" with a great player... but that contract precludes the sexy, quality-not-quantity return you'd typically envision.

Agreed.

Now do Carey Price.

First and foremost as a leaf fan Marner he will not be traded .
If he is traded you won't be getting a star player back.
It will also tell me that we are going into a mini reloading.

10.9 on a dead cap is going to be tough to move if you want fair return, Dubas really handcuffed himself with that contract overpayment. Not that I think Marner is being shopped, I don't think he is. But if he was, the contract is going will lessen his return.
No, it wouldn't.

No, it wouldn't. Like any GM, if trading Marner would make the
team better, they do it.
