I'd love to have either one on my team but I'm leaning towards Rantanen because of Play-Off performance and scoring. Career stats so far look better for Marner but Rantanen played his rookie season with a horrible Avs at the time.

They're amazing players imo.

Rantanen has better playoff performances because with him the Avalanche have made at least the second round and so far that's not happened for Marner during his time in Toronto.

However in the 2018 playoffs when Toronto played Boston I thought Marner was the Leafs best player since he had 9 points in the seven games.

I don't really get how not making the second round explains the 1.18 vs 0.84 points per game difference

Rantanen has been terrible since coming back from injury in November, I had hoped that the long break before playoffs would give him a chance to restart, but he had a relatively average playoff showing as well. His skating has been well below acceptable and he handles the puck like a grenade. I'd still take him in the poll, as Marner had a rough Playoff showing as well, and I think Rants had higher upside, but man, both these guys have to pick it up.

Wait... what?

So because Rantanen and his team have actually shown up in the playoffs and gotten past the 1st round, it hurts Rantanen's playoff pedigree while helping Marners? That's certainly a different spin to try and help Marner.

Easy choice for me. Give me Marner. Drives play, and is great on the PK. MM can (and does) play a lot of heavy minutes.

You must mean Burakovsky.

I think it’s close enough that you cant pick one just because they’re better, but rather base it on fit with your #1 centerman.

We’re talking about two completely different players who can compliment others in their own way. For example i think Rants is a better fit with MacKinnon as he lets him do his thing while getting open for shots, making nice passing plays but also going to the front of the net for screens and taking some of the attention of the dmen with his big frame. Mac doesn’t need someone to be flying up and down the ice with him. Can be nice in rush chances but not so much for cycling down low.

But then if you’re looking for a winger for a guy like Barkov for example who is slower and takes care of his defensive responsibilities it’s great to have someone who can bring the speed element and push the pace while having the skill to make plays.

Went with cheaper and (IMHO) better.. That is not saying Marner is bad by any means. I'm just thinking that if he could add a bit more toughness and "will to win" to his game, Rants would have top 5 (whole league) potential.

Why didn't you include relevant stats like goals, assists and points? Your career stats summary is mostly TOI figures.

Anyway, voted Rantanen but it's a coin flip for me. Would love to have either of them.
Because they are clearly trying to push posters into voting for Rantanen. That is why they posted playoff stats but not any regular season ones (which are a huge set of data to conveniently leave out).

Rantanen 281GP 91G 151A 250P 0.89PPG
Marner 300GP 83G 208A 291P 0.97PPG

These stats are with Marner averaging about 45 seconds less TOI/GP, and full minute less of PPTOI/GP.
