Marner 18/19 expectations, 90+ points doable?

I think it's possible he hits 90+ points next season. Think about it. We all saw how hard Marner dominated junior his final year there, and how his linemates Tkachuk and Dvorak have not been able to replicate Marner's success in the NHL. He put up 61 points in 77 games as a 160 pound, 19 year old rookie in a low scoring season. He had 50 something points in the final 40 something games of the regular season (can't remember exact points and games but it was definitely 50+ over 40+) after getting off to a really slow start, and 9 points in the playoffs this year as a 20 year old.

He figured the NHL out in the 2nd half of last season and realized how he needed to play in order to put up points, he was incredible. I had friends that aren't Leaf fans constantly texting me during the playoffs how impressive he looks, and how much better than everyone else on the Leafs he was. The older he gets and the more his skinny frame matures and fills out, I think he's going to dominate this league for the next 8-10 years and 90 points or more starting next season isn't out of the question if scoring keeps up the way it is.

I mean why move him off Kadri's line, that is where he was producing at a tremendous rate. Also gives the Leafs more depth and causes match up hell for other teams.

I'm a fan of Nylander, Marner and Matthews on their own line. I have a feeling Matthews is going to be like Crosby in that he won't play with stars but rather elevate middle 6 wingers to bonafide top liners.

The thing about Marner that he's had every year I've watched him play since Junior, is that he looks like a player that processes the league he's in, and once he figures it out he can rip it apart like very few can. I think that will happen next year.

I honestly could not wait for him to get away from Bozak the last two years because Bozak does not compliment Marner as a player at all.

He was playing at a near 90 point pace since he got put on the Kadri line back in January, so he can play at that level. It's hard to do it for the rest of the season, but he has the skill.

Not too sure about 90+, but his point totals could hover around the PPG mark (which would hopefully be a full 82 game season). In any case, his point totals should increase again.

Doesn't even have to play with Matthews to be honest - Mitch will put up PPG+ playing with any legitimate top 6 centre in the league. We saw it with Kadri last year. I think he'll be between 80 and 90 next year, but 90+ is a possibility

Between 80-85 if playing 82 games IMO, Johnny Gaudreau numbers.
Key is games played, obviously he doesn't hit 90 if he misses any games.

A over/under ppg poll would be more interesting.

He'd have likely hit 80-85 this past season if JVR-Bozak-Marner didn't struggle in the first part of the season.

Wait...90points? Wut?
There's being a fan, then there's being a homer.
Even when it comes to the most elite players in the game I don't necessarily expect 90+ points.

I understand your point but it's not unreasonable to say he might hit 90 in a season through his career.
He certainly looks to be a ppg player now

I see the big 3 all getting 80'ish points ... Marner gets a lot of PP points ... no jvr

90 is a tad high, I'll also think possibly 75-80. Of course like others have said, it depends on line mates, and also Mike Babcock coaches this team so I could be wrong but I'm not sure we're going to see huge individual point totals like that.

We must ask ourselves is Marner > Barzal ?

If my boy Matty Barzal could put up 85 points in his rookie season then Marner who is suppose to be BPA and drafted higher should hopefully be able to put up more points than that. If not than draft mistakes were made and statistics will support that.

Lets hope Marner's impressive 2nd half of last year is the stepping stone to a strong 2018-19, unlike the first 1 year & 1/2 were he was a 3rd liner and PP specialist mainly with limited TOI/g. He should now be in the top 3 forwards in TOI/g and opportunity.

However for Marner to reach those similar lofty numbers of 90+ points he is going to have to rely on a healthy Matthews to pump up those assist totals into the 60's with him expected to score goals in around 20's. Leafs PP missing JVR (one of Marner's prime PP points weapons gone) there will need to be a replacement player that picks up that slack.

Basically Marner's success will be linked to Matthews success both ES and PP and then both will be PPG players together.

Marner certainly has the offensive flair and skills to be a NHL PPG player. I don't think I would bet against him achieving that. :)

PS. If Marner ends up being Tavares wingman next year then I'm going with a definite YES on this one. :wg:

 That's certainly a very simplistic way to look at it. o_O

If you want to be likely Johnny "Hockey" than you have to produce like Johnny "Hockey".

If Patty Kane and Johnny Gaudreau are you benchmark comparables than 60-70 points is not going to cut it.
